Iriomote Hotel by Hoshino Resorts, which aims to become Japan's first "eco-tourism resort" on the UNESCO World Natural Heritage island of Iriomote (Iriomote-jima), is hosting its "Blissful Mango Morning" program again this year. Running on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from June 26 to July 31, 2026, the program lets guests visit a local mango farm in the early morning, learn growing tips directly from the farmer, and savor the season's finest mangoes at a special breakfast set. New this year is a hands-on picking experience where guests select their favorite mango to take home as a souvenir.
Rich, Tree-Ripened Mangoes from Iriomote Island

Mangoes are delicate fruit that are sensitive to temperature and sunlight. In mainland Japan, they are commonly grown using boiler-heated greenhouses. The Yaeyama Islands, however, sit in a subtropical climate with warm temperatures year-round, making them naturally suited to mango cultivation. All Yaeyama mangoes are grown in "unheated greenhouses," without any supplemental heating. Because they ripen slowly on the tree until fully mature, these mangoes develop higher sugar content than heated-grown varieties, along with a rich, naturally fragrant aroma and a well-balanced sweetness and acidity. Around 95% of production is handled through individual sales channels, meaning these mangoes rarely make it to general markets.
Three Highlights of the "Blissful Mango Morning"
1. Visit a Farm at Dawn and Hear the Grower's Story

Guests visit a mango farm during the morning harvest hours and hear directly from the farmer about cultivation methods and the secrets behind the fruit's exceptional flavor. Summer in Iriomote means peak mango season. Iriomote mangoes are known for their high sugar content, notable acidity, and distinctive fragrance. Once a mango ripens fully on the branch, its own weight causes it to drop naturally — and at this particular farm, only naturally fallen fruit is harvested. Surrounded by the fresh morning light, guests enjoy a leisurely experience learning what makes these mangoes so special.
2. Learn the Art of Picking a Perfect Mango — and Take One Home [NEW]

After getting to know the mangoes, guests try their hand at harvesting. The farmer shares insider tips on how to choose a delicious mango — looking at color, size, and more. The mango each guest selects using these grower-taught techniques is theirs to keep as a souvenir. Since mangoes are a climacteric fruit that continue to ripen after harvest, the picked mango makes a perfect travel memento. The farmer will also advise on when it will be at its best, so guests can look forward to enjoying it at home at peak ripeness.
3. A Blissful Morning Set Featuring the Day's Finest Mangoes

Back at the hotel, guests sit down to a "Mango Morning Set" that makes the most of the farm's carefully grown mangoes. The spread includes thick-cut French toast generously topped with mango and a refreshing parfait salad — a perfect morning meal. On top of that, the farmer hand-selects mangoes that are at peak ripeness that very day, which are cut fresh right at the breakfast table. Having seen the growing environment firsthand and learned the story behind the fruit, guests can savor every bite with a deeper appreciation. It's an ideal way for mango lovers to start the day.
