Kaga Iryokuen (加賀依緑園), located in Yamanaka Onsen, Kaga City, Ishikawa Prefecture, is hosting the "Motome Takayuki Exhibition" from March 11 (Wed) to April 13 (Mon), 2026. The solo show features works by Takayuki Motome, a Kutani ware artist based in Nomi City, Ishikawa Prefecture.
The exhibition brings together approximately 60 pieces including decorative plates, ceramic panels, figurines, sake vessels, sets of dishes, and tableware — all centered on the artist's two defining themes: flowers and white animals. The works are displayed across two separate rooms, each dedicated to one of the themes, allowing visitors to experience the distinct character of each world.
The artist shared the following about the exhibition:
"In this solo exhibition, I have divided my two main themes — flowers and white animals — into two rooms. The floral works center on practical tableware, while the white animal pieces include figurines, ceramic panels, and sake vessels as auspicious items. For the flowers, I compose my designs based on sketches, making use of negative space and applying Japanese pigments that emphasize intermediate tones. The tiger lily, my favorite flower, takes center stage in this exhibition, and I have sought to capture its many expressive faces in my works. As for the white animals, they are said to be divine messengers, and I have combined these shrine guardian animals with flowers to give them an auspicious meaning. Both series are realistic in style, yet the floral works feature white space while the animal works use black space, giving each an intentionally contrasting atmosphere."
