Patina Osaka Offers Free Recycled Picnic Mats for Cherry Blossom Viewing at Osaka Castle Park

This spring, Patina Osaka is offering a sustainable twist on traditional cherry blossom viewing. Located between the Naniwanomiya Palace ruins and the historic Osaka Castle, the hotel is distributing free upcycled recycled paper leisure sheets — a thoughtful alternative to the blue tarps commonly associated with hanami gatherings.

The free sheets are produced by Sanyo Paper, an Osaka-based paper recycling company that uses recovered paper to create upcycled products under the banner of sustainable manufacturing. The "Picnic Rug" features a design that blends naturally into surrounding greenery, and its water-resistant surface allows it to be dried and reused even if rain or drinks are spilled on it. The mat comfortably accommodates three to four people and is well suited for enjoying the cherry blossoms along the southern outer moat of Osaka Castle Park, which is just steps from the hotel.
