FHG hotels Co., Ltd. (Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Hidekazu Ogata), part of the Kasumigaseki Capital Group, is opening "seven x seven Yufuin" in April 2027. Ahead of the opening, reservations went live on the hotel's own site on September 2, 2026.
"seven x seven" is a hotel brand proposing a new kind of luxury built around exceptional locations and experiences found nowhere else. Following Itoshima and Ishigaki Island, "seven x seven Yufuin" now joins the brand.
The hotel sits on a sprawling 13,567-square-meter site at the foot of Mount Yufu, a mountain whose appearance shifts with the seasons, in a town where hot springs and a townscape blending history with modern design come together. The design makes the most of the site's potential, positioning the building so that its commanding view of the mountain is visible from anywhere inside. Built around a "forest bathing" theme inspired by the surrounding nature, the hotel is designed for a stay that moves with the seasons.
Every room comes with its own onsen bath, and a thermal spa blends a full-scale Finnish sauna with the hot spring. Human Qreate, the company behind the Isseki Sancho group of restaurants, runs a dining program spanning Japanese, Korean, and Western cuisine plus a cafe and bar, open from morning to night. Throughout the hotel, large windows keep Mount Yufu's scenery in view, letting guests move between hot spring and dining in a modern space as the light changes from morning to night.
Rooms: 39 in Total, Every One With Its Own Onsen Bath
The hotel offers six room types in total, accommodating groups of up to 8 guests. Every room comes with a private onsen bath, so guests can soak at their own pace, unhurried, as the seasons change around them.
The top-tier rooms, The Seven Penthouse (289㎡) and The Seven Suite (122㎡), each add a private sauna and an outdoor pool exclusive to the room, creating a refined private space where guests can move from sauna to cold plunge to open-air relaxation entirely within their own suite, away from other guests.

A Thermal Spa Designed by Finland's Avanto Architects, Their First in Japan
To create a space where people and nature connect without any hard boundary, the hotel brought on Avanto Architects as its design partner, a firm leading the modern sauna movement in Finland, the birthplace of sauna culture.
Working from its signature strength of harmonizing design with the surrounding landscape, the firm has created a thermal spa where guests can take in the grandeur of Mount Yufu with all five senses. This is Avanto Architects' first design project in Japan, following its work on Löyly, the internationally acclaimed modern sauna in Helsinki. A precisely engineered air circulation system removes the stuffiness typical of saunas, delivering both remarkably easy breathing and even warmth from head to toe for an exceptional bathing environment.
The design extends beyond the sauna itself to how guests spend their time before and after. Looking out over the view of Mount Yufu, guests can move between the sauna, outdoor relaxation areas, meals, drinks, and the onsen while still in swimwear, a distinctly Finnish approach that proposes a new way to enjoy a hot spring resort.

A Comment From Avanto Architects' Ville Hara and Anu Puustinen

"The essence of Finnish sauna culture is not simply sitting in a warm room, it's about connecting with abundant nature and unwinding body and mind. Taking on our first project in Japan, we were deeply captivated by the potential of Yufuin as a location. Its lush, sloping green terrain, and the commanding view of Mount Yufu it offers, were the perfect stage to express the bathing experience we envision, one where nature and people dissolve into one another without boundary.
We designed the space to honor Yufuin's dramatic natural surroundings as fully as possible, drawing that appeal into the sauna itself. By installing large windows facing the mountain, we recreated the overwhelming sense of openness to the landscape found in traditional Finnish saunas, within this distinctly Japanese setting.
Surrender to precisely calculated, authentic löyly and air circulation, and take in the shifting scenery and the beauty of Mount Yufu with all five senses. We hope guests enjoy a rich stay found nowhere else, where Finnish philosophy meets the natural beauty of Yufuin."
Dining: Japanese, Korean, and Western Cuisine From Morning to Night
Rather than the conventional style of separate, self-contained restaurants, the hotel introduces a new dining concept where a main dining area, a sushi counter, and a cafe and bar coexist on a single floor.
Breakfast in the morning nourishes the body, Korean cuisine and cafe fare at midday offer a relaxed break, and in the evening guests can savor sushi crafted by an artisan and seasonal wagyu, followed by a bar to round out the day. Multiple areas on the same floor transform through the hours, so guests move through different cuisines from morning to night and experience the whole day like a single tasting course.
Another highlight is the freedom to move around the property, stepping into the restaurant for a meal or a drink between sessions at the thermal spa.
Reservations are now open, including an opening celebration plan that comes with meals.

FHG Hotels Brands
fav / FAV LUX
"fav" redefines the richness of travel, offering enriching stays unconstrained by conventional hotel norms. Under the tagline "stay together, play together," the brand launched a premium line, "FAV LUX," built around dining and sauna experiences with fuller stay amenities. A new property opened in Miyazaki in July 2026, continuing the brand's evolution as a hotel built for group stays.
seven x seven
"seven x seven" launched as a high-end line inheriting the style of the group-stay hotel "fav." Beginning with its opening in Fukuoka's Itoshima area, it is planned to expand nationwide. Where "fav" has mainly served as a base for enjoying local culture in regional cities, "seven x seven" is positioned in locations blessed with an exceptional setting. Under the tagline "where luxury goes to play," it redefines contemporary luxury through hotel design matched to each location, along with amenities and dining that balance indulgence and freedom, while QR-code smart check-in and a digital concierge encourage self-directed hospitality that respects each guest's own way of enjoying their stay.
edit x seven
"edit x seven" expresses the worldview of "seven x seven" in a new form. While inheriting its spirit of sophistication and comfort, the brand carefully edits that essence from an "edit" perspective. Focused on freedom, spontaneity, and enjoying life on one's own terms, it is designed for lighter, more flexible travel, a hotel built for a free and comfortable stay that values being yourself.
BASE LAYER HOTEL
As its name suggests, drawing on the idea of a base layer as fundamental outdoor wear, BASE LAYER HOTEL provides all the basic functions needed for a comfortable stay paired with enjoyable exploration of the surrounding city. It's a business hotel for culturally minded business travelers, proposing "a new kind of business hotel for exploring the city."
