Smith & Wollensky Opens First Japan Location in Ginza on May 1, 2026

Smith & Wollensky, the New York-born steakhouse that has been operating since 1977, is set to open its first Japan location in Ginza. Smith & Wollensky Ginza will have its grand opening on Friday, May 1, 2026, with reservations opening on Friday, March 27, 2026.

The Ginza location occupies three floors (11F, 12F, and 13F) at 5-8-15 Ginza, Chuo Ward, Tokyo, and features a main dining area, a bar lounge, and private rooms for business or personal occasions. The restaurant has a total of 146 seats.

Steak and Menu

The menu focuses on USDA prime steaks that are cut in-house daily and dry-aged in an on-site aging room. Steaks are cooked using a specialized broiler designed to retain the meat's juices, then finished with beef tallow rendered from the aged meat to bring out the natural flavors. The signature "Swinging Tomahawk Ribeye" is presented suspended at the table and is one of the restaurant's most distinctive dishes.

The wine list includes nearly 300 selections curated by the sommelier from around the world, covering classic vintage wines through to private-label bottles.

The Gigantic Chocolate Cake

One of the restaurant's well-known desserts is the "Gigantic Chocolate Cake," which measures 36 cm in diameter and 15 cm tall. The multi-layered cake has long been a fixture at Smith & Wollensky locations and is representative of the classic American-style desserts the brand is known for.

Wine Cellar

The wine cellar spans all three floors of the restaurant and holds over 2,000 bottles selected by the sommelier, covering the full range from appetizers through to dessert.

Live Jazz

The main dining floor features live jazz performances in the evenings.
