Unatoto's New "Sushi Push Pop" Lets You Enjoy Eel Sushi One-Handed During Cherry Blossom Season

To mark its 25th anniversary, Naidai Unatoto is introducing a new limited-time sushi menu called "Sushi Push Pop Let's All Push!" (¥750 tax included), available from Friday, March 13, 2026, for the duration of cherry blossom season at select locations.

The concept is simple: push sushi out from the bottom of a transparent cup and eat it right away — no chopsticks, just one hand. It was developed with outdoor cherry blossom viewing and food walks in mind.

Inspired by a Sushi Style Seen in New York

The push pop sushi format has gained popularity overseas, particularly in cities like New York, where sushi is served in a cup and pushed out from the bottom. Unatoto has taken that idea and rearranged it around their signature eel, presenting the combination of Japanese "sushi" and "unagi" in a casual, fun format.

One-Handed Sushi — No Chopsticks, No Mess

The "Sushi Push Pop Let's All Push!" works by pressing the bottom of the transparent cup to push the sushi upward. Because it requires no chopsticks and can be held in one hand, it's easy to enjoy while strolling under cherry blossoms or catching up with friends.

It's well-suited for relaxed hanami — wandering while gazing at sakura or chatting with company. And for those who want to lean into the casual vibe, pairing Sushi Push Pop in one hand with a beer in the other is a natural fit — what Unatoto calls "toto-nomi" (a light drinking experience centered on fish dishes).

For an even more complete eel experience, the Push Pop can also be combined with takeout menu items like "kimo-kushi" (eel liver skewers) and "kurikara-kushi" (eel skewers), which pair well with beer.

All 7 Totoko sticker designs

Each cup comes with a sticker featuring "Totoko," Unatoto's mascot character. There are 7 sticker designs in total, assigned randomly — so discovering which one you get is part of the fun.

Three Colorful Layers to Enjoy

Three-layer sushi contents

Inside the transparent cup, three distinct layers of sushi are stacked on top of each other. From the bottom up:

  • Smoked salmon mayo sushi
  • Kinchaku-style temari (eel soboro mayo)
  • Eel California temari

Each push reveals a different flavor. The colorful layers visible through the transparent cup — and the cross-section that appears as you push — make it a visually appealing dish that's easy to photograph or record.
