Summary

During my stay in the Setouchi region, I went bar hopping alone in Onomichi City, Hiroshima! Since my hotel was conveniently located near the station, all the shops I visited were also near the station.
Because I had been cycling and felt tired, indulging in tasty food and drinks was very enjoyable!
Onomichi City is famous for temple walk and cats, and is a recommended place for sightseeing so please refer to this page✨

Travel Itinerary

Nomikuidokoro Michikusa(呑み喰い処 みち草)

The first stop is located right near Onomichi Station, just before entering the Onomichi shopping street.

When I entered the shop, I found a very cozy atmosphere, with the owner and customers enjoying chatting at the counter!
The counter was full, so I had a seat at the tatami room.

I heard that there was fresh local fish, and I ordered kampachi (amberjack) – it was so good!

It is an izakaya at night, but at lunchtime they serve seafood rice bowls and set menus, etc.

Although the shop is open as an izakaya (Japanese style bar) at night, it also serves kaisen-don (seafood rice bowl) and set menus for lunch, making it ideal for lunch.

Torinoittoku(とりのいっとく)

The second stop is in front of the station!
It is one of the shops belonging to the ‘Ittoku Group’, which operates izakayas in Onomichi!

I visited on a weekday night around 8:00pm and the shop was busy and lively!

The menu mainly includes yakitori, but you can also enjoy Hiroshima’s famous speciality like oysters and Onomichi ramen!
You can order yakitori from one piece, so it’s good for solo drinker.
But the prices may be a little bit high, perhaps reflecting tourist rates…?

This time I drank local sake from Hiroshima and it was so good and I’m happy✨ There were 5 to 6 kinds of sake available.

The owner of this place was also kind and taught me a lot of things when I had a hard time deciding which sake to order.

Onomichi Iekei Ramen Todoroki-ya(尾道家系ラーメン 轟家)

Wandering the night streets of Onomichi in search of some Onomichi ramen to finish off my day! Onomichi ramen features a rich yet refreshing soy sauce-based soup. The flavorful broth is crafted using high-quality small fish from the Seto Inland Sea, enhanced with the addition of pork fat. Typically, topped with simple ingredients such as green onion, chashu pork, and bamboo shoots.
All of the shops that I had found in advance were not open after 9:00 pm, but finally I found the one! ✨

The shop serves Onomichi Ramen, but not the standard type; they offer Iekei Onomichi Ramen, known for its pork marrow and soy sauce broth, along with thick, straight noodles.

This shop is the first Iekei Ramen shop in Onomichi!
Onomichi Iekei Ramen was very delicious and the owner was very kind and we talked the whole time! Had so much fun!

It is located in an alley shortly after entering the Onomichi shopping street.
