Things to Do in Tateyama: A day trip to enjoy gourmet food and sightseeing spots by cycling

This time, we rented bicycles at Tateyama Station for a one-day trip around Tateyama City!
It was a fun cycling trip with great weather 🚲 I enjoyed the history, food and nature!

Travel Itinerary

09:20am Tateyama Station(館山駅)

Today’s journey starts at Tateyama Station! The station has a tropical feel, with impressive palm trees planted along the road 🚉🌴.

Tateyama Station, located in Hojo, Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture, is a station on the East Japan Railway Uchibo Line. It has been selected as one of the 100 best stations in the Kanto region.

09:25am Tateyama City Tourist Association, Tourism Town Development Center(館山市観光協会 観光まちづくりセンター)

Community Development Center, located just down the stairs from the west exit of Tateyama Station.

Located in Hojo, Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture, the Tourism Town Development Center has more than 50 rental bicycles. Located just down the stairs from the west exit of Tateyama Station, visitors can choose their favorite bike from a wide variety, including electric bicycles and sports bikes. According to reviews, the facility is convenient and easy to use.

10:00am Shiroyama Park(城山公園)

The first destination was Shiroyama Park, where Tateyama Castle is located!
I went in mid-November and the gingko trees in the park were at their best 🍁.
There were two routes to the castle, one mainly up the hill and the other mainly up the stairs, but the stairs look hard 😂.
Looking at the map, it looks like there are many cherry trees planted in the park, and I would like to come in the spring as well! 🌸

Shiroyama Park, located in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture, is a park developed from the ruins of a castle. Tateyama Castle is located in the park, and the gingko trees provide beautiful scenery when they are at their best. The route to the castle includes a slope and stairs, and in spring, many cherry trees are planted, offering different attractions depending on the season you visit.

10:15am Tateyama Castle (Hakkenden Museum) -館山城(八犬伝博物館)

After climbing up the hill (surprisingly hard for those who are not athletic), you will reach the cool castle.
Inside is a museum, and the fourth floor is a space for observation.
The best view of Tateyama city 👀✨.

Tateyama Castle, located in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture, is a Japanese castle that has been designated as a historical site by Tateyama City. There is a museum dedicated to the Satomi clan, and from the fourth floor, visitors can enjoy a wonderful view of Tateyama city.

10:30am Satomi Cyaya(里見茶屋)

A short break at a teahouse in Shiroyama Park 🍡🍵.
Ordered a set of 8 different types of dumplings to enjoy! There are two of each except for the Mitarashi, so it’s perfect for two people to share 😋.
The dumplings and bean paste are all handmade, and the gentle sweetness is soothing 🌱
The view of the park was relaxing and happy~!

Satomi Chaya, located in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture, is a Japanese-style cafe offering handmade dumplings made with the utmost care. Located in Shiroyama Park, the popular set includes eight different kinds of dango with a gentle sweetness of handmade dumplings, which you can enjoy while enjoying the view of the park. Except for the Mitarashi, there are two of each, making them perfect for two people to share. Many people find it a perfect place to take a short break in the park and enjoy Japanese sweets and Japanese tea.

11:30am Myoonin Temple(妙音院)

The next stop was a temple where visitors can visit with their pets!
There are 88 Jizo statues lined up in the mountain, and it is interesting to find them one by one 🔍.
The place is full of nature and can be enjoyed in spring, summer, and fall 🌿.
We naturally get the power of the Jizo!

Myoonin Temple is located in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture, and features an array of 88 Jizo statues, which can be visited with your pet. The place is full of nature and can be enjoyed in any season, spring, summer, and fall. It is a place where you can feel the power of nature and the Jizo statues.

12:30pm Okinoshima(沖ノ島)

After a 20-minute bike ride, the next stop was an uninhabited island (🏝) that can be crossed on foot.
A small island with a circumference of about 1 km, which can be crossed by walking on the sandy beach
It was a very windy day, so I had to speak loudly to be heard.
From the other side of the island, when the weather is nice, you can see Mt! 👀✨
It was a fun island to explore🎶.

Okinoshima, located in Fujimi, Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture, is an island in Tateyama Bay. It is designated as Minami-Boso National Park as a rowing natural environment area, and visitors can walk across the sandy beach. From the other side of the island, if the weather is fine, one can see Mt. On windy days, it was so windy that one could hardly hear the voices, but it is well known by word of mouth as a spot where one can enjoy the feeling of exploration.

1:30pm Minato Oasis Nagisa no Eki Tateyama(みなとオアシス“渚の駅”たてやま)

The Sakanakun Gallery is an impressive beach station🐟.
It was interesting to see many specimens of fish from Boshu!
Local vegetables, souvenirs, and fresh fish are available for purchase!
You can also take pictures on the terrace with the best view or go to the end of the long pier!

Minato Oasis Nagisa no Eki Tateyama is an exchange base facility located in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture. It has an observation deck overlooking Tateyama Bay, a seaside plaza, and a museum on the beach. There is also a direct sales shop where you can buy fresh local seafood and agricultural products, a restaurant, and an impressive Sakana-kun Gallery. Reviews mention that the terrace seats offer the best view of the ocean, and that visitors can also visit Umihotaru at night.

1:35pm Tateyama Nagisa Shokudo( 館山なぎさ食堂)

Lunch was a seafood bowl🐟 at a restaurant in the Nagisa no Eki.
We had it on the terrace because the weather was nice and the view of the ocean in front of us was fantastic 💖.
Every bite of the fresh fish made me happy, and I finished the meal in flippant fashion.
I also ordered an extra piece of French toast 😋 It came with lots of sauces to change the flavor, including ice cream, strawberry jam, and caramel sauce, and it was delicious to the last bite ✨.

Tateyama Nagisa Shokudo is a restaurant located in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture. The restaurant offers a wide variety of menu items such as kaisendon (rice bowls with fresh seafood) and pastas, focusing on local fish caught in the morning. It is also popular as a stylish café, where you can enjoy the view of the sea from the terrace seats. Reviewers say the kaisendon is delicious and the French toast is also highly recommended.

3:00pm Shiroyama Onsen Satomi no Yu(南総城山温泉 里見の湯)

The trip ends with a hot spring bath to sweat off the sweat of cycling. ♨️
Here we booked a luxurious private bath and spent a relaxing time 🎶 at the end of a relaxing day in a compact Japanese-style room and an open-air bath with a great atmosphere 🌿.
After getting out of the bath, I took another break by reading manga in the rest area on the second floor. It was so cozy I almost fell asleep 😂.

Shiroyama Onsen Satomi no Yu is a one-day hot spring bathing facility located in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture. Word of mouth has it that the private baths and open-air baths offer a relaxing experience, and are recommended to avoid the traffic congestion on the Aqua-Line.
