Izakaya Hopping in Naha, Okinawa: Enjoy by yourself!

TOC

Summary

The city of Naha, which we visited this time, is the central city of the main island of Okinawa and is full of attractions such as Shuri Castle and Kokusai Street. We had a barhopping trip during our trip to Naha, and here is a summary of what we did!
We ate too much from the very first restaurant, and then we went to the second restaurant to compare luxurious wines, and then to the third restaurant to eat and drink until the very end.
It’s great to be able to find a variety of food and drinks when traveling ✨I can’t help but overeat.

Travel Itinerary

AKINDO

The first izakaya is located in Kumoji, a hot area in Naha, where you can enjoy Japanese sake and Okinawan cuisine. It is a 3-minute walk from Kokusai-dori, making it easy to access.
There is a wide variety of seafood and meat dishes, and you can enjoy drinks with unique Okinawan snacks.

Sanpin (Jasmine Tea) high 500 yen

The first drink in Okinawa is always Sanpin High. with appetizers.

Gimami tofu (Okinawan local cuisine made from peanuts) half size 250 yen

Actually, half size was not on the menu, but they were kind enough to make it half

I definitely ask for the Gimami tofu, which has a delicious peanut flavor, when I come to Okinawa. It goes well with alcohol.

Zaru mozuku (Mozuku dishes served with noodle soup base) 680 yen

This is the first time for me to eat mozuku like zaru soba (buckwheat noodles)! Eating mozuku with dipping sauce is a new experience for me! It’s not as sour as I thought it would be, but it’s delicious!

Kin Agu pork shabushabu (Japanese hot pot) with okayu (ice porridge) soup 860 yen (for 1 person)

AKINDO recommends shabu-shabu. What is porridge soup? I wondered, but to my surprise, there is rice in it and it is slightly thickened!

Kin Agu is a pork raised slowly and carefully in Kin-cho, Okinawa Prefecture, and is tender and full of flavor! Delicious!
It’s refreshing and not heavy at all, so it’s a winner!
Wrapped with green onions and flavored with a dash of spicy sauce, it is a dish that will keep you coming back for more.

Seekwasa shochu high 550 yen

You can’t miss this when you come to Okinawa! This sourness goes well with Okinawan food! I’m sure you’ll agree. (emphasis mine)

Tsuchitoibuki(ツチトイブキ)

The second store and wine bar on Ukishima-street offers a selection of 400 wines, mainly natural wines.
I had never had that much wine before, but the friendly and kind owner taught me a lot and gave me some recommendations. It was a cozy wine bar where I even had the moving experience of changing the taste just by changing the glass to a ceramic one!

The glasses were made by an international artist, and I was very impressed with the attention to detail ✨.

Alsace Paradoxe Andre Lorail 1200 yen (glass)

Orange wine
It is called orange wine, but it does not mean that it tastes orange, it is also a wine made from grapes.

It is called orange wine because the color looks like orange. I see.
It tastes more like white wine!

SARL l’Octavin / Hip Hip Jura (Poulsard) 1,600 yen (glass)

White wine from France.
The owner says it seems to have a more unique flavor than orange wine, but I found this one easier to drink!

It looks like a natural wine lover’s favorite.
It’s fun to find your favorites.

Le Coste Sangiovese Garbo 1400 yen (glass)

Italian red wine
Very refreshing than I expected.

The third restaurant is Suehiro Blues, located near the second restaurant, a former Japanese sweets shop with 100 years of history. It is a unique restaurant with the atmosphere of a Japanese sweets shop and a fun standing drinking style!

Interior

The Japanese-style space with antique furniture gives it a wonderful, otherworldly feel!

Tropical Passion Fruit Sour 650 yen

It is tropical and exciting from the outside! The taste is not so sweet and refreshing!

Skewer (tongue) 200 yen

I also ordered skewers grilled right in front of me.
I am happy to eat these snacks even if I am quite full!
Freshly baked, hot, and served with sours is the best!

Skewer (rose) 282 yen

Nice combination of gutsy rose and these onions

Handa Somen Chanpuru (half) 646 yen

Here is the chime!
Handa Somen is made in Tokushima Prefecture and is thicker than regular Somen.
They have a firm texture and are suitable for stir-frying! Very tasty!
