Naha Hari - Okinawa's Traditional Sea Festival
About This Event
Naha Hari is Okinawa's iconic sea festival with roots tracing back to the Ryukyu Kingdom era. Crews aboard haryu-sen (dragon boats) adorned with dragon decorations row their oars in sync with the rhythm of drums and gongs, accompanied by chants, competing for speed.
At Naha Port's Shinko Pier, the highlight is the intense competition among the three historic districts of Naha, Kume, and Tomari, showcasing harbor-town pride in a spectacular showdown. While this is a traditional event praying for maritime safety and bountiful fishing, it has evolved into a festival everyone can enjoy, featuring races across various categories including general, corporate, and student divisions.
From stage performances and Okinawan food stalls to trial boat rides and the grand fireworks finale, the entire port transforms into a festive space where visitors can experience Okinawa's maritime culture and vibrant energy firsthand.
