Its breathtakingly transparent water — known worldwide as "Niyodo Blue" — now draws travelers from across the globe. On this tour, you will glide across the Niyodo River in a crystal kayak (a fully transparent kayak). The sensation of paddling above water so clear you can see the riverbed below is nothing short of magical — it feels almost as if you are floating through the air. Stones on the river bottom, fish darting through the current, and swaying aquatic plants all become part of the most spectacular scenery you will ever paddle over. The Niyodo River Outdoor Center is open almost every day of the year (closed only from December 29 to January 3), and in fact the water is at its clearest from autumn through winter. During the colder months, the paddles are even switched to a low-splash design so you can enjoy the experience comfortably no matter the season. Conveniently located along the route between Ehime (Dogo Onsen / Matsuyama) and central Kochi City, this is a perfect stopover on any Shikoku journey.
