Summary

This time, I toured Shimonoseki, Tsunoshima, Nagato, and Nagato Yumoto using the Yamaguchi West Pass (unlimited rides on trains, buses, and ships within the tour area for two days) sold by setowa!
The seafood was delicious, the hot spring town was fun, and it was a very satisfying 2-day/1-night trip.

Travel Itinerary

9:50am Nagatoshi Station(長門市駅)

Day 2 starts!
Take a bus from Nagatoshi Station to Senza Kitchen.

Spot Outline

Located in Higashi fukawa, Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, Nagato City Station is a station of West Japan Railway Company (JR West). The area is dotted with tourist spots and commercial facilities, and is used by locals and tourists alike as a transportation hub.

Senza Kitchen(センザキッチン)

The first place I came to was a store that sells mainly local food products!

Some are sold whole, some are processed, and some are dried.

Senza Kitchen is a roadside station located in Senzaki gion-cho, Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Visitors can fully enjoy Nagato’s culinary delights at the farm and marine products direct sales area where fresh seafood and vegetables can be purchased, as well as at the restaurant and barbecue hut.

10:00am Grill House(グリルハウス)

Here you can BBQ with ingredients bought at Senza Kitchen!
It is a great location with a beautiful view of the ocean.

Charcoal can be woken up in advance!

Tare (sauce) is also provided, so you only need to buy the ingredients!

Spot Outline

The Grill House is a section of the roadside station Senza Kitchen where visitors can grill over charcoal the seafood and mountain products they buy at the station. According to word of mouth, it has a good reputation for its scenic view and the fun of cooking by themselves.

Nagatoshi Station

After enjoying the barbecue, take the bus back to Nagatoshi Station.

Nagato Yumoto Station

From Nagatoshi Station, take the train to Nagato Yumoto Station.
It is a retro unmanned station.

Spot Outline

Nagato Yumoto Station is on the West Japan Railway (JR West) Mine Line. There are hot springs and sightseeing spots in the surrounding area, and the relaxed atmosphere is appealing. Visitors to the station have favorable reviews of the retro atmosphere.

12:00pm Nagato Yumoto Onsen Onto Plaza(長門湯本温泉 恩湯広場)

We are now going to explore the town of Nagato Yumoto!
There is a stepping stone in the plaza here that leads down to the river.

Nagato Yumoto Onsen Bamboo Stairs(長門湯本温泉 竹林の階段)

Next, go to the stairs in the bamboo stairs.
The lights at night are the focus of attention, but it is beautiful during the daytime as well!
It is connected to the Onto Plaza, so please visit!

The Bamboo Stairs, a symbol of Nagato Yumoto Onsen, is a staircase surrounded by hundreds of bamboo trees. It is also known as the shortest route connecting the parking lot and the hot spring resort. At night, the bamboo grove is illuminated, and a walk at night is recommended.

Nagato Yumoto Onsen Autumn Leaves Stairs(長門湯本温泉 紅葉の階段)

The maple trees along the stairs had not yet turned red.

The Autumn Leaves Stairs in Nagato Yumoto Onsen is a staircase of 88 steps leading from Ochaya Koji to the hot spring resort area. The autumn leaves along the staircase are beautiful, and the staircase is illuminated at night.

Akebono Cafe(あけぼのカフェ)

We walked quite a bit, so it was time for a snack.
I bought coffee and dorayaki.
Yuzukichi-flavored Dorayaki is refreshing! And the white bean paste and fluffy dough are a perfect match!

Akebono Cafe, located in Fukawa-yumoto, Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, is a cafe stand attached to Hoshino Resort KAI Nagato. It sells dorayaki, perfect for strolling in the hot spring resort area, and its popular “Yuzukichi” is made with original citrus fruits from Yamaguchi Prefecture.

Otozure-do(おとずれ堂)

Next, we went to a store selling original goods of Nagato Yumoto Onsen to buy souvenirs.

Otosore-do is a souvenir shop located in Fukawa-Yumoto, Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. Here, original goods and other items from Nagato Yumoto Onsen are sold, and you can enjoy shopping in the cute store, which is a renovated old private house in the style of a bath. According to word of mouth, there is a wide variety of goods unique to the hot spring resort, and they make great souvenirs.

Nagato Yumoto Onsen Stand-by hot spring Ontou(長門湯本温泉 立ち寄り湯 恩湯)

Finally, we came to the oldest hot spring in Yamaguchi Prefecture, which we had been looking forward to!

They sell towels so you can come empty-handed for a day trip.
There is a rest area that only visitors to the hot springs can enter, where they can drink rumneh and beer and eat ice cream.

Stand-by hot spring Ontou is a hot spring facility located in Fukagawa-Yumoto, Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, and is attractive in that it can be easily used as a one-day trip. The facility has a rest area exclusively for those who have used the hot spring baths, where you can enjoy ramune, beer, ice cream, and other beverages. Towels are also available for purchase, so visitors can come empty-handed.

1:00pm Kawara Soba Yanagiya(瓦そば柳屋)

After the hot springs, we will have lunch.
The restaurant is a renovated 70-year-old old private house.

Upper level is a cafe. Takeout available.

The soba noodles are baked on a kawara tile, which makes them crispy and crunchy!
The lemon soaked sauce, the broiled egg, the meat, and the green onions are all delicious.

Kawara Soba Yanagiya is a restaurant specializing in tile soba located in Fukawa-Yumoto, Nagato City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The restaurant is housed in a renovated 70-year-old private house, and its quaint appearance is impressive. As the name suggests, kawara soba is the signature dish, and you can enjoy delicious soba made with local ingredients.

Footbath (Otozure Footbath) – 足湯(おとずれ足湯)

I would like to end this trip with a footbath.
This is one of two footbaths that can be entered while enjoying a view of the river. It is a smaller footbath.

Footbath (Otozure Footbath) is a popular footbath located on the promenade along the Otozure River. It is one of the two footbaths along the Otozure River. It is a clear, colorless, alkaline simple hot spring, and is called “hot water for beautiful skin” because it is close to the ingredients of lotion.

Nagato Yumoto Station

Take the train to Asa Station.

Asa Station (厚狭駅)

This is the station where the Shinkansen stops.

Thanks to the Yamaguchi Pass, I was able to save 1,120 yen on this trip!

It is accessible by train from Nagato Yumoto Station, where the Shinkansen bullet train also stops. The station is used as a convenient station because the Yamaguchi Pass allows you to travel at a discount. There are also tourist spots and restaurants nearby, making it popular among tourists.
