Hiroshima 2 Day Itinerary: Camping on Ohkunoshima Island! A luxurious 1 night 2 day trip on a sightseeing train (Part 1)

Summary

This time, we took the etSETOra to Ohkunoshima Island, famous for its rabbits.
This is a luxury trip that also marks my first solo camping debut.

2:40pm Mihara Station(三原駅)

Start from Mihara Station!
Board the etSETOra tourist train.

Mihara Station, located in Mihara City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is a West Japan Railway (JR West) station, built across the ruins of the main citadel of Mihara Castle. Visitors can board the etSETOra sightseeing train, which provides convenient access to Mihara Port and Ohkunoshima Island.

A sightseeing train connecting Hiroshima and Onomichi!
This time, the train will ride from Mihara to Tadanoumi.
The train will slow down on the section near the sea, so you can enjoy the scenery as much as you like!

The “etoSETOra” is a temporary rapid train operated by West Japan Railway Company between Hiroshima Station and Onomichi Station via Kure Line and Sanyo Main Line. The exterior of the train has a chic design that evokes the peaceful scenery of Setouchi, inspired by the “blue” of the Seto Inland Sea and the “white” of the waves seen from the coastline.

Tadanoumi Station(忠海駅)

We arrived at Tadanoumi station!
Walk for about 5 minutes to Chung Hae Port.

Located in Takehara City, Hiroshima Prefecture, Tadanoumi Station is a station on the Kure Line of the West Japan Railway Company (JR West). There are sightseeing spots in the vicinity, attracting many tourists. About a 5-minute walk from the station is Tadanoumi Port, from which ferries depart to Ohkunoshima Island. There is also a store near the station where you can buy rabbit food and a store that will take care of your luggage.

Purchase a ticket at the waiting area! 720 yen for a round trip.

Tadanoumi Port is a harbor in Takehara City, Hiroshima Prefecture, and is also used as a boat port. The port has a souvenir store overflowing with rabbit goods, and you can also purchase ferry tickets to Ohkunoshima Island and store your luggage. Ferry service to Ohkunoshima Island is also available from Takehara Port for convenient access.

4:00pm Ohkunoshima Island(大久野島)

From Chuhai Port, it takes about 15 minutes to reach the rabbit island of Ohkunoshima Island!

Ohkunoshima Island, located in Tadanoumi-cho, Takehara City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is a small uninhabited island famous for its rabbits. Approximately 600 wild rabbits inhabit the island, which is a 15-minute boat ride from Tadanoumi Port, and many tourists, both domestic and foreign, visit the island in search of solace.

5:00pm Kyukamura Ohkunoshima(休暇村 大久野島)

Arrive at the campground at the hotel where you will be staying this time!
All camping equipment and ingredients are provided by the hotel, so even beginners can enjoy camping without worries.

Kyukamura Ohkunoshima is an accommodation facility located in Tadanoumi-cho, Takehara City, Hiroshima Prefecture. In addition to natural hot springs and seasonal cuisine using seasonal ingredients from the Seto Inland Sea, the facility offers a wide range of facilities such as cycling, camping, and an outdoor swimming pool, which can also be used on a day-trip basis.
