Animated Film "Another World" Opens in US Theaters Starting June 5

The animated feature film Another World, produced through Digital Hollywood Graduate School's Japan IP Global Challenge Project and based on the Japanese novel Sennen Oni by Naka Saijo, is now opening in US theaters beginning June 5, 2026.

The film is an international co-production with Hong Kong-based animation studio POINT FIVE CREATIONS LIMITED, directed by Tommy Kai Chung NG and produced by Polly YEUNG. Completed in spring 2025, the film had its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival 2025 — one of the world's largest animation film festivals — in the "Out of Competition / Midnight Specials" section. It was also screened at the Sitges – International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia 2025 in the "Noves Visions" section in October of the same year.

Following positive reception at international film festivals, the global theatrical run began in Hong Kong on October 29, with the film ranking #1 at the box office in its opening week. The film subsequently won the Best Animated Feature Film award at the Taiwan Golden Horse Awards (established in 1962), one of the most prestigious Chinese-language film awards, and received eight nominations at the Hong Kong Film Awards — including Best Film, Best Director, and Best Screenplay. After theatrical runs in the UK, Malaysia, Taiwan, Vietnam, and other countries, the film now makes its US theatrical debut.

About the Japan IP Global Challenge Project

The "Japan IP Global Challenge Program" was established in 2016 with the goal of having Digital Hollywood Graduate School students discover high-potential, underrepresented Japanese content and adapt it for international entertainment markets. Major publisher Tokuma Shoten provided source materials for the project, with coordination support from Producer Emi Iizuka, formerly in charge of overseas film business at Amuse Inc.

Students — including international students from around the world — summarized and translated selected source works such as novels, then carried out years of sales activities by participating in international content markets such as Hong Kong Filmart and TIFFCOM, introducing works to film production companies and producers worldwide.

Among these efforts, the novel Sennen Oni caught the eye of Hong Kong independent producer Polly YEUNG, who saw strong potential in the work, ultimately giving rise to the animated feature film Another World.
