Giant Robo Episode 1 Set to Air in 4K Negative Scan HD Remaster on TOKYO MX on June 27, 2026

TOKYO MX will broadcast Episode 1 of Giant Robo — "The Sea Monster Dakorah" — in a 4K negative scan HD remaster on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 7:00 PM on TOKYO MX1.

The special broadcast is timed to celebrate the release of the 4K Negative Scan HD Remaster Giant Robo Blu-ray BOX, scheduled for Wednesday, July 8, 2026. The Blu-ray edition was selected for release through Toei Video's fan-driven project "Let's Decide Together! Toei Tokusatsu Blu-ray Commercialization PROJECT," following an enthusiastic vote from tokusatsu fans.

About Giant Robo

Giant Robo is based on a manga by Mitsuteru Yokoyama and is recognized as Japan's — and the world's — first live-action tokusatsu giant robot hero series. It originally aired on NET (now TV Asahi) from October 1967 to April 1968, produced by Toei Tokyo Studio.

The series has been credited as a forerunner to the super robot anime boom of the 1970s and is considered the origin of the giant robot tokusatsu productions seen in later Toei franchises such as Super Sentai and Space Sheriff. It was also exported overseas and went on to influence numerous films and comics worldwide.

The 4K negative scan HD remaster restores the classic series in vivid color and high resolution not previously seen, bringing the original giant robot adventure to life in a new way.

Story

Guillotine Emperor, an alien invader, forms the secret organization "BF Group" and constructs a giant steel robot — Giant Robo. However, a boy named Daisaku Kusama, driven by a sense of justice, turns Giant Robo into a force for good. Together with the Unicorn Agency, Giant Robo stands as humanity's defender against a series of enemies, including the sea monster Dakorah, the demon sphere Glover, the space plant Satan Rose, and even GR2 (Giant Robo No. 2).
