Kuju Flower Park in Taketa City, Oita Prefecture, is holding its Lavender Harvest Festival — "Fragrance Gathered, Early Summer Flower Time" — from Saturday, June 27 to Sunday, July 12, 2026.
Set at an elevation of 850 meters on the Kuju Highland, a 5,000 m² lavender hill is blanketed by around 5,000 lavender plants in full bloom, turning the hillside a fresh shade of purple. The breeze carries the flowers' fragrance across the park, offering a sensory immersion in early summer on the highland.

Kuju Flower Park spans a vast 220,000 m² grounds, with approximately 500 varieties and 5 million flowers blooming from spring through autumn. Beyond the flowers, the park offers unobstructed highland views, birdsong, and on clear nights, a sky filled with stars — a retreat for all the senses. The park also features cafes, restaurants, a shop stocked with local souvenirs, and a dog run. Pets are admitted free of charge, making this a popular destination for families, couples, and pet owners looking to spend a full day in nature.

Lavender Picking Experience — Rare in Kyushu
Kuju Flower Park is one of only a handful of spots in Kyushu where visitors can pick their own lavender. The variety grown here is lavandin, prized for its clean, refreshing scent and lasting fragrance.
Harvested lavender can be used to make dried flowers, potpourri, sachets, or wreaths to enjoy at home. The timing of your visit affects what the blooms are best suited for:
- Early period (late June): Buds are plentiful — ideal for dried flowers
- Late period (early July): Flowers begin to open — best for potpourri and other crafts
