Haguro Mountain Campsite Opens April 25, 2026 with New Deck Sites and Off-Season Pricing

Haguro Mountain Campsite, located within the grounds of Kyukamura Shonai Haguro resort hotel in Bandai-Asahi National Park, is opening for the 2026 season on April 25. Two notable changes are coming this year: newly introduced off-season rates to make the campsite more affordable, and the addition of a brand-new Deck Site in the forest area in response to guest requests for shaded pitches.

Campsite at 300 Meters Elevation on Mt. Haguro

The campsite sits in a highland forest at mid-elevation on Mt. Haguro, within the grounds of Kyukamura Shonai Haguro. With the hotel just a 3-minute walk away, the setup is particularly reassuring for first-time campers and families with young children.

The higher elevation means noticeably cooler temperatures compared to central Tsuruoka City. With little artificial light in the surrounding area beyond the hotel and cooking facilities, the night sky here offers an impressive spread of stars. Campsite guests can also use the hotel's hot spring "Hagetsu no Yu" by reservation (separate bathing fee applies).

Season: April 25 (Sat) to October 25 (Sun), 2026 (planned)

Check-in: 1:00 PM–6:00 PM

Check-out: 11:00 AM

Fireflies in the Forest in Early Summer

During the early summer months, fireflies appear near the water areas within the campsite grounds. Both Genji Fireflies and Heike Fireflies—two species representative of Japan—inhabit the area. As their active seasons differ, fireflies can typically be observed on the grounds from late June through early August.
