In 2026, mudy on the 昨晩 marks the 20th anniversary of its formation as a band. Ahead of its upcoming 4th full album The Golden Age, the group released the lead single The Farewell digitally on July 15, 2026.
The new track is an instrumental rock piece built on a foundation of post-rock and math rock. Starting from a forceful phrase, its tightly interlocking ensemble playing and dynamic melodic work conjure a dramatic narrative. While retaining the danceable sound the band is known for, the song's shifts between delicacy and intensity play out like a single scene from a film depicting a moment of parting, leaving a deep resonance behind. Starting from a concept of wanting to write a song about "parting," this final dance took shape as if pulled out by the opening riff. Above all, just listen to the melody that explodes in the chorus (or the chorus-like section) — that's really what it comes down to. Watifo's crying guitar and feedback run wild throughout. It's no exaggeration to say this song exists purely to carry that melody. We kept the title simple, The Farewell, as an offering to someone we won't be able to see for a while. The floor tom rings out at the end of the chorus, as if reluctant to say goodbye.
The band has also unveiled the day-by-day lineup for the first wave of artists performing at ALL SUPER MAXXXXX!!, its self-produced commemorative concert celebrating both the release of the 4th album and the band's 20th anniversary. Even without knowing the concept behind it, both days promise to be fully enjoyable on their own.
