At New York Lamp Museum & Flower Garden, three popular sunflower varieties — Sunfinity, Sunbelievable, and APOLLON — are now at their best, with the bright yellow blooms creating a vivid contrast against the blue sea stretching out in front of the garden.
Heavy rain from June through early July delayed this year's blooming season by about two to three weeks compared to a typical year, but the sunflowers grew steadily once the rainy season ended and have now reached their best viewing period.
About 1,200 sunflowers are planted in flower beds near the cape, with views of Izu Oshima Island, the Jogasaki Coast, and Kadowaki Lighthouse. Around 1,000 of them are "Sunfinity," a multi-branching variety that keeps producing new blooms one after another, with 50 to 100 flowers per plant, so it can be enjoyed over a long period.

"Sunbelievable," also known as the "1,000-bloom sunflower," is an extremely multi-branching variety. Because it doesn't produce seeds, it keeps blooming continuously over a long period of about three to four months. Its compact height makes it easy to care for, and being pollen-free means it won't stain clothing during work — qualities that have made it an increasingly popular garden variety.

"APOLLON" branches vigorously, with small flowers blooming one after another at the end of long stems. Its blooming period continues until past autumn, and thanks to its long flowering season and multi-branching nature, it's said to produce over 1,000 flowers in a single season.
