Hamakita Sweets Community nicoe (二コエ) in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka is holding the "9th nicoe Kakigori Koshien 2026 – 47 Prefectures: Find the Sparkling Ingredients!" from July 1 (Wednesday) to September 27 (Sunday), 2026. The event brings together 50 varieties of shaved ice, each made with ingredients sourced from a different one of Japan's 47 prefectures.
About the Kakigori Koshien
Good confectionery starts with good ingredients, and nicoe has run the "Kakigori Koshien" since 2018 to spotlight the dedication of producers across Japan through dessert. This year's 9th edition adds vividly colored new and renewed flavors, including five kinds of shaved ice made with Japanese chestnuts sourced from chestnut-growing regions nationwide, continuing the event's tradition of surprising, inventive shaved ice.
Six New and Renewed Flavors for 2026
This year's newly featured specialty ingredients include Saitama's strawberry variety "Amarin," Tokushima's "Naruto Kintoki" sweet potato, and Japanese chestnuts from Ibaraki, Kumamoto, and Ishikawa — three of the country's leading chestnut-growing prefectures.

Saitama's "Amarin" strawberry is a premium variety that has taken top gold awards at multiple competitions. Lifting the film placed on top of this shaved ice releases a sweet-and-tart sauce and fresh cream that spill down over the ice.

Tokushima's Naruto Kintoki, a well-known sweet potato variety, appears in a shaved ice designed to capture both the look and the texture of the vegetable itself.
The highlight of this year's Kakigori Koshien is Japanese chestnut. Joining the existing chestnut shaved ice from Ehime and Shizuoka, new additions from Ibaraki, Kumamoto, and Ishikawa bring the lineup to five chestnut varieties in total.

Ibaraki's entry uses chestnuts from Kasama, one of Japan's top chestnut-producing areas, paired with hojicha and tapioca.

Kumamoto's version features chestnuts from Yamaga, the top chestnut-producing area in western Japan, piled generously over the ice.

Ishikawa's flavor is built around large, morning-picked chestnuts from the Noto region, styled as a Mont Blanc.

The renewed Miyazaki mango shaved ice takes on an Asian-French twist, pairing mango with jasmine and lychee for a colorful, elegant finish.
Every flavor in the lineup showcases a different prefecture's signature ingredient, so visitors can sample regional specialties from across Japan in shaved ice form.
