Held annually each autumn at Hitachi Seaside Park in Hitachinaka City, Ibaraki Prefecture, this spectacular event features an entire hillside dyed crimson with kochia plants. Approximately 30,000 to 40,000 kochia plants are planted on Miharashi Hill, transforming from vibrant yellow-green in early summer to a fiery red during the autumn foliage season.
Kochia is characterized by its round, fluffy, and adorable shape. At the peak of autumn colors, the entire hill spreads out like a crimson carpet, creating a stunning landscape with breathtaking contrasts against the blue sky and the pink cosmos flowers that bloom simultaneously. Walking paths are maintained throughout the hill, allowing visitors to enjoy photography from various angles. While the park is well known for its nemophila in spring, the autumn "Kochia Carnival" has also become established as a regular annual event that attracts attention from visitors both within Japan and internationally.
