Hiroshima 2 Day Itinerary: Enjoy Miyajima through gourmet food and sightseeing spots

Summary

This time, we went on a 2-day/1-night trip to Miyajima, one of Hiroshima Prefecture’s most popular tourist destinations.
In addition to the symbol of Miyajima, Itsukushima Shrine, visitors can enjoy oysters, fried momiji manju buns, and other delicacies.
Please refer to it when you visit Miyajima!

Itinerary (Day 1)

10:00am Miyajima-guchi(宮島口)

It was just renewed in 2022.
From here, take the ferry to Miyajima!

Spot Outline

Miyajima-guchi, located in Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is used as a boat stop. It is used as a departure point for Miyajima, from where visitors can purchase tickets and board a ferry to Miyajima.

Itsukushima Port (Miyajima)- 厳島港(宮島)

Arrival at Miyajima! Itsukushima Port is the gateway to Miyajima.

It is an indispensable place for access to Miyajima and is used by many tourists. There are many restaurants and souvenir shops in the area, making it a convenient base for sightseeing.

10:30am Livmax Resort Aki Miyajima(リブマックスリゾート安芸宮島)

We are now going up to Mt. Misen, but we will leave our luggage at the hotel first.
The food was delicious and the open air bath in the room was great.

Momiji Bridge(紅葉橋)

We left our luggage at the hotel and headed immediately for Momijidani Park.
This is the entrance to Maple Valley Park.

Momiji-bashi, a red bridge, is located in Miyajima-cho, Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Located at the entrance to Momijidani Park, it is a popular photo spot during the season of colorful autumn leaves.

Momijidani Park (紅葉谷公園)

This park is located on the way to Yamamura Chaya.
It is said that the autumn leaves are beautiful in fall.

Momijidani Park, located in Miyajima-cho, Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is a park where about 700 autumn leaves can be seen in mid-November. Visitors can also enjoy beautiful views of deer running in the fresh green season and in winter. It is located about a 5-minute walk from Itsukushima Shrine and about a 20-minute walk from Miyajima Pier.

11:00am Yamamura Chaya(山村茶屋)

For lunch, we went to a restaurant in the park.
The restaurant has the atmosphere of a tea house, and the menu is extensive.

There was a tatami room, tables, and a counter.

Anago-don 1,500 yen

The anago donburi, which I ate with a very hungry stomach, was the most delicious. It was also a perfect match with the soup!

Miyajima Ropeway(宮島ロープウエー)

With our stomachs full, we will take the ropeway up to Mt Misen.

Kayatani Station(榧谷駅)

The ropeway is like an attraction because of its speed!
Change ropeways at Kayatani station for further uphill.

Kayatani Station, located in Miyajima-cho, Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is a cable car station. Riding the ropeway provides a speedy attraction-like experience and offers spectacular views along the way. It is also used as a transfer point.

Shishiiwa Station(獅子岩駅)

I’ll get off at Shishiiwa station. The air is nice and clean!
It takes about 1.5 hours to climb to the top of Mt Misen.

Shishiiwa Station is the last stop on the Miyajima Ropeway in Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. Shishiiwa Observatory (elevation 433 m) is located just outside the station, and it takes about 1.5 hours to climb to the top of Mt Misen. The station also has coin lockers and a rest area, and is visited by many people equipped for mountain climbing.

Shishiiwa Observatory(獅子岩展望台)

We planned to go up to the summit, but there was still snow on the ground and it was dangerous, so this time we went up to the Shishiiwa Observatory.
Although I was not able to climb the mountain, I was able to enjoy the snowy scenery, which was a valuable experience!

Shishiiwa Observatory is located in Miyajima-cho, Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, near Shishiiwa Station on the Miyajima Ropeway. It offers a spectacular view of Hiroshima Bay and the Seto Inland Sea. Some reviewers said they planned to go to the top of the mountain, but it was dangerous due to snow, so they went up to the observatory.

Once back at the hotel, I relaxed in my room.

5:30pm Shimai-meshi enishi(島飯 縁)

For dinner, we went to an oyster and conger eel restaurant on the island of Miyajima, close to the hotel.
We enjoyed the local delicacies of Miyajima! I am full and happy.

Process (Day 2)

10:00am Itsukushima Shrine(厳島神社)

Start of Day 2!
After checking out, the destination was a shrine on Itsukushima.
The torii gate floating on the sea was so beautiful✨

Itsukushima Shrine

It is picturesque no matter where you cut it off. It was high tide at the time we went there that day!
It was a little windy…

Itsukushima Shrine is located in Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. It was registered as a World Heritage site in 1996.

11:30am Yakigaki no Hayashi(焼がきのはやし)

The last stop is Miyajima’s gourmet food!
First, go to a restaurant where you can enjoy fresh oysters from Hiroshima.
Oysters are the name of Hiroshima.

Hiroshima Lemon Cider 450 yen

It was refreshing and delicious!
Hiroshima is also famous for lemons as well as oysters.

Yakigaki no Hayashi, located in Miyajima-cho, Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, is an oyster specialty restaurant that has been serving oysters for over 60 years as the birthplace of grilled oysters. It is especially famous for its fresh Hiroshima oysters, which can be enjoyed in a variety of dishes including raw, grilled, fried, and cooked with rice. The restaurant has both table and tatami room seating, allowing families with children from 0 to 6 years old to relax and enjoy their meal. Since the restaurant is located on the way to Itsukushima Shrine, you can stop by while sightseeing. Take-out is also available.

Momiji-do Main Store(紅葉堂本店)

Another store to visit on Miyajima is a long-established momiji manju (A type of baked manju shaped like a maple leaf, a specialty of Itsukushima, Hiroshima Prefecture) shop.
It also makes a great souvenir!

Many kinds of momiji manju are available. It is hard to decide which one to choose!

Deep-fried momiji 200 yen

The outside is crispy and the cream inside is sweet and perfect for each other.

Momiji-do Main Store is a long-established momiji manju shop located in Miyajima-cho, Hatsukaichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture. The deep-fried momiji, a new specialty of Miyajima, is especially popular and can be enjoyed freshly fried. It is also ideal for eating and walking around.

1:30pm Itsukushima Port (Miyajima) – 厳島港(宮島)

Take a ferry from Itsukushima Port to return home.
I was healed by Miyajima for two days, wasn’t I? I would like to visit again, this time in a different season!
