Okayama 2 Day Itinerary: Enjoy Kasaoka gourmet food and Kitagishima (Day 2)

Summary

This time we visited Kasaoka and Kitagishima for one night and two days. This is the plan for the second day.
Explore Kitagishima by renting a bicycle.
Blessed with warm people, I felt sentimental when I left the island✨I definitely want to go back!
In addition, we had a great time visiting a recommended confectionery store in Kasaoka City and Kasaoka Bay Farm.
When you visit Kasaoka, be sure to visit Kitagishima as well ✨

Travel Itinerary

9:30am Amanoya Ryokan(天野屋旅館)

The second day started at Amanoya Ryokan!
I had a good night’s rest yesterday.

Amanoya Ryokan is a long-established ryokan located in Kitagishima-cho, Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture. This ryokan is a three-story building with a nostalgic atmosphere, and the manager welcomes guests with a warm smile. Guests can rest and relax.

10:00am K’s LABO

Today, we will rent bicycles here and explore Kitagishima.

For bike rental, I’ll buy a ticket from the ticket machine. 1,000 yen was the price!

K’s LABO is a complex facility located in Kitagishima-cho, Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture. It includes a stone museum that introduces the history, culture, and charm of stones, a museum store, a café, and rental bicycles that can be easily experienced.

Kitagi no Keirin(北木の桂林)

The first spot I visited was a beautiful green lake that was so mysterious ✨I felt like I was lost in the world of Ghibli!
This is apparently where rainwater accumulated in a former quarry and turned it into a pond.

Located in Kitagishima-cho, Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture, Kitagi no Keirin is a spot where rainwater accumulated in a former quarry and created a pond. The beautiful green lake spreads out, and the scenery makes visitors feel as if they have wandered into a mystical world. In particular, the green color of the lake is so beautiful that it looks like something out of a Ghibli movie!

Kitagijima no Venice(北木島のベニス)

Arriving at the next spot. This place seems to be a harbor made of waste stones from quarrying!
The surface of the water glistening in the sunlight is so beautiful✨

The Kitagijima no Venice is located in Kitagishima-cho, Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture. It is a harbor made of waste stones from quarrying, and the water level changes depending on the time of day. The reflection of the rock wall and the blue-green gradation on the surface of the water, depending on the light, remind one of “Venice”.

11:00am Ishikiri Valley Observation Deck(石切りの渓谷展望台)

Explore the island counterclockwise from K’s LABO! There is an observation deck about 50 meters up the mountain.
The view from the observatory is breathtaking! The sound of the stone cutting is incredibly powerful.

The Ishikiri Valley Observation Deck is located in Kitagishima-cho, Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture. Quarrying continues here to this day, and the spectacular view can be enjoyed from the 60-meter-high stone-cut viewing platform.

12:00pm Daidai-ya(橙屋)

Lunch at a restaurant specializing in freshly caught fried seafood!
The people at the store are also very friendly.

The shrimp in the kakiage (fried oyster) donburi was caught by a nearby fisherman.
The kakiage is crispy and outstandingly delicious! We also had spicy karaage and kushikatsu (skewers) with a strong flavor of the ingredients.
It was very delicious!

Spot Outline

Located in Kitagishima-cho, Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture, Daidai-ya is known as a restaurant specializing in fried seafood. It is a specialty of fresh seafood prepared by a woman on the island. The restaurant is especially crowded at lunch time and is very popular among the locals.

Moebius strip(メビウスの輪)

On the way home, I found a cool object!
I have properly photographed it.

The Moebius strip is a monument made of stone located in Kitagishima-cho, Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture. Its official name is “Moebius Circle of Space 180° Twist. It is the work of contemporary sculptor Keizo Ushio, who used the “Mobius Circle” as a motif.

1:00pm Toyoura Port(豊浦港)

I still wanted to explore Kitagishima, but I took a ferry from Toyoura Port back to Kasaoka.

Toyoura Port, located in Kitagishima-cho, Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture, is used as a boat terminal. It is also known as an access point to Kitakishima and can be reached by ferry to Kasaoka.

Fushikoshi Port Ferry Pier(伏越港)

Arrive at Fushikoshi Port from Toyooka Port! We are going to Kasaoka to eat sweets.

Fushikoshi Port is a boat terminal located in Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture, and serves the route to Shiraishijima and Kitagishima. Tickets are sold on board. Ferries can also carry cars and motorcycles.

2:30pm patisserie Svufar(スバファー)

A fashionable confectionery shop in a residential area.
It was crowded with many customers!

Spot Outline

Located in Yomban-cho, Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture, Svufar is a stylish confectionery shop. Located in a residential area, it has a relaxed atmosphere. This store sells a wide range of products, from cakes and sweets western-style confections, baked goods for gifts and souvenirs, special breads, hors d’oeuvres, and tapioca drinks.

3:30pm Kasaoka Bay Farm(笠岡ベイファーム)

Take a bus to Kasaoka Bay Farm.
At Bay Farm, the sunflower areas are divided into A.B.C.D. It is said that the sunflowers bloom at different times so that visitors can enjoy the sunflowers for a longer period of time.

Kasaoka Bay Farm is a roadside station located in Kasaoka City, Okayama Prefecture. In the adjacent area, visitors can enjoy seasonal flower gardens such as sunflowers in summer, cosmos in autumn, and rape blossoms in spring. Inside, there is a restaurant and a store where visitors can purchase local foods and souvenirs.

4:30pm Kasaoka Station(笠岡駅)

We returned to Kasaoka Station.
From here, return to Okayama Station!

Kasaoka Station, located in Kasaoka City, is a station on the West Japan Railway (JR West) Sanyo Main Line. It is a popular starting point for trips and can be reached on foot when heading to Kasaoka Port. There are many restaurants and souvenir shops in the area, making it a convenient place for tourists.

5:00pm Okayama Station(岡山駅)

The journey begins and ends at Okayama Station.
I enjoyed this trip too!

Okayama Station is a station of West Japan Railway Company (JR West) located in Kita-ku, Okayama City. It takes only 50 minutes from Osaka by Shinkansen bullet train and less than one hour from Kyoto. You can also take a sightseeing train, SAKUBI-SAKURA, to Tsuyama Station.
