Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store is releasing two new original 3D avatars simultaneously on BOOTH's "Daimaru Matsuzakaya Avatar Official" store from 12:00 PM on Friday, February 27, 2026. The first new avatars in approximately two years, they incorporate VRChat-friendly elements such as animal ears and are designed for casual everyday use.
A launch celebration try-on event will also take place for those interested in experiencing the new avatars firsthand.
Concept: "Communication to Make the Most of Daily Life in VRChat"
Daimaru Matsuzakaya Department Store entered the metaverse space in October 2023 with the department store industry's first original 3D avatars and currently offers 12 avatars for sale. While previous avatars followed a "formal attire" theme, the two new avatars — "Hinami" and "Lucile" — were created under the concept of "Communication to Make the Most of Daily Life in VRChat," with designs intended to be enjoyed casually and to help broaden communication in everyday VRChat use.

DM LABO: Co-Creation with VRChat Users
"DM LABO" is a VRChat user community launched around the same time as the development of these new avatars.
To develop avatars focused on "communication" for making the most of everyday VRChat life — a departure from the previous "formal attire" concept — community members were recruited, bringing together individuals with different strengths and interests across the company-user divide.
Approximately 40 members gathered to provide input on naming directions and ideas suited to "Hinami" and "Lucile," and also tested the avatars ahead of release to evaluate the user experience. The community initiative aims to continue fostering VRChat culture through ongoing collaboration between the company and users.
