DRUM TAO's Dedicated Theater Opens in Kyoto Spring 2026

In spring 2026, a dedicated theater for the world-famous Japanese taiko drum performance group 'DRUM TAO' will open in Kyoto.

The theater will be located in the Avanti Building near Kyoto Station, providing easy access for both domestic and international visitors. DRUM TAO, which has performed in 31 countries worldwide and attracted over 10 million audience members, will use this venue as their permanent home base in Japan's ancient capital.

Theater Features

Intimate Performance Experience

The new theater will offer approximately 320 seats in an intimate setting designed to maximize the impact of DRUM TAO's powerful performances. This limited capacity will create an overwhelming sense of presence and immersion that larger venues cannot provide. Audiences will experience the energy of the performers and taiko drums up close, creating a visceral connection that transcends language and cultural barriers.

The venue's design will feature stage and seating layouts specifically optimized to convey the full power of taiko performances. As a dedicated theater, it will employ production design and operational systems tailored exclusively to DRUM TAO's unique artistic vision.

Year-Round Programming

Unlike touring performances, this dedicated theater will offer permanent long-run shows throughout the year. Visitors to Kyoto will be able to experience DRUM TAO's world-class performances regardless of when they visit the city. This consistency will establish a new cultural landmark in Kyoto's entertainment landscape.

Complete Cultural Experience

The theater goes beyond just the performance itself. The entire venue will be designed with a cohesive artistic vision, featuring:

  • Exhibitions and artistic displays in the hall and foyer spaces
  • Bar counter services for pre-show and intermission experiences
  • Collaborations with local Kyoto artists and traditional craftsmen

Kyoto Night Entertainment Revolution

The theater will present DRUM TAO performances as evening shows, introducing a new dimension to Kyoto's nightlife. While the city is renowned for its daytime cultural attractions, this venue will provide visitors with compelling reasons to extend their stays and explore Kyoto after dark.
