Wagokoro Co., Ltd. (headquartered in Shibuya, Tokyo; President and CEO: Tomohiro Mori; Tokyo Stock Exchange Growth Market: 9271), which operates Japanese accessory brands including hair ornaments, wagasa (traditional Japanese umbrellas), and chopsticks nationwide under the vision of "Bringing Japanese Culture to the World," will begin selling new "Hakue-bashi" (foil-painted chopsticks) at its Hashiya Mansaku stores and on its "The Ichi" e-commerce site starting Friday, August 7.
Hashiya Mansaku is adding Hakue-bashi, chopsticks wrapped in a luxurious shine, to its lineup.
The chopsticks are handcrafted by artisans using Wakasa-nuri, a traditional lacquerware craft from Fukui Prefecture.
When the pair is placed side by side, the beautiful gold and silver lacquer work forms a striking pattern reminiscent of a Japanese folding-screen painting.
The lineup features four auspicious motifs -- Takarabune (treasure ship), Nobori-goi (ascending carp), Miyabi-goi (elegant carp), and Zuikaku (auspicious crane) -- each available in a luxurious gold or silver finish.
The gold- and silver-leaf-like texture and delicate craftsmanship suit everyday use as well as matching pairs.
The chopsticks are also positioned as a gift for celebratory occasions such as weddings and longevity milestones, or as a souvenir for visitors from overseas.
