Hoshino Resorts and Shueisha Launch First Collaboration Featuring 5 Manga Artists and Their Travel Stories

Hoshino Resorts has launched "Hoshino Resorts × Shueisha 100th Anniversary: Traveling Manga," its first-ever collaboration with Shueisha. The project brings together five of Shueisha's fashion magazines — T JAPAN, éclat, MAQUIA, BAILA, and non-no — and five popular manga artists, each creating an original story centered on one of Hoshino Resorts' brands: Hoshino-ya, Kai, Risonare, OMO, and BEB. Alongside the manga, linked web articles and short video content on social media are planned as part of the wider promotional effort.

The Idea Behind the Project

Hoshino Resorts operates six distinct brands, yet many guests tend to perceive the group as a single entity without a clear sense of what makes each brand different. Rather than spelling out those differences, the collaboration uses manga narratives to convey each brand's atmosphere and concept. Readers are invited to imagine the experience for themselves and naturally discover their own ideal Hoshino Resorts destination.

Hoshino-ya × T JAPAN × Yoko Kamio

Hoshino-ya Okinawa

Hoshino-ya, whose concept is "a front-row seat for every moment," offers a distinctive theme at each location, providing guests with an extraordinary escape from daily life. Manga artist Yoko Kamio — known for the iconic romance manga Hana Yori Dango and more recently for Prism Rondo, currently streaming on Netflix — will create an original story about discovering a new side of oneself during a stay, aimed at intellectually curious adults. Her work will be published on T JAPAN web, the official site of T JAPAN, the Japanese edition of T: The New York Times Style Magazine.

Kai × éclat × Satoru Makimura

Kai Hakone

Kai is a hot spring inn brand with 23 locations across Japan, built on the concept of being "classic yet refreshingly new." Each property offers local cultural experiences through features like "Gotouchi-gaku" (locally themed activities) and "Gotouchi-heya" (locally inspired rooms). Manga artist Satoru Makimura — who debuted in 1973 in Bessatsu Margaret and is known for works like Oishii Kankei and Real Clothes — is currently serializing Dancing Generation Senior in Cocohana. Her new manga, depicting a mother and daughter on an onsen trip, will appear on Web éclat, the website of éclat, a magazine catering to sophisticated women in their 40s and 50s. The story explores themes of healing and meaningful conversation between generations.

Risonare × MAQUIA × Aki Mochida

Risonare Tomamu

Risonare is a resort hotel brand centered on the spirit of "PLAY HARD," offering location-specific design and a rich variety of activities. Manga artist Aki Mochida — whose series First Love Story Read That Day was adapted into a TV drama in 2019 and is currently serialized in Cookie — will create a manga for MAQUIA, a beauty-focused media platform. The story portrays a retreat experience at a Risonare resort, framed as a mind-and-body reset for health-conscious women in their 30s.

OMO × BAILA × Ami Uozumi

OMO5 Tokyo Gotanda

OMO is a city-center hotel brand with 18 locations across Japan, designed to help guests discover hidden charms in the neighborhoods around them. Ami Uozumi, a Kumamoto-based manga artist whose work Three Days Moon and Cat was awarded the first anan Cat Manga Grand Prize in 2019 and adapted into a live-action film in 2024 — and whose series Cold Yet Soft ranked 12th in the 2024 "Kono Manga ga Sugoi!" women's edition — will create an original manga for BAILA. The story follows a working woman on a city adventure based out of an OMO hotel, offering a warm and gentle push for busy women navigating everyday life.

BEB × non-no × Nana Haruta

BEB5 Karuizawa

BEB is a hotel concept described as "more than an izakaya, less than a trip — a place to hang out with the usual crew," designed for younger travelers in their 20s and 30s. Manga artist Nana Haruta — one of the signature artists of Ribon magazine, known for beloved hits like Stardust Wink and Tsubasa and Hotaru — will draw a group of friends spending time together at a BEB property. Her manga will be featured in non-no, a fashion and lifestyle magazine celebrating its 55th anniversary this year with a strong following among women in their 20s.
