Infiorata Kobe is a beloved spring tradition in the city, now entering its 28th year. The event features elaborate picture panels crafted entirely from flower petals—primarily tulips—laid out across streets and plazas. The concept draws on the Italian word "infiorata," meaning "to lay flowers," a practice found in Italian cities such as Genzano and other European towns.
In Kobe, the event first took place in 1997 with the spirit of beautifying the city after the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake. Under the concept "the city as an exhibition of flower paintings," the tradition has since continued at multiple venues across Kobe.
