Joetsu Aquarium Umigatari Hosts Special Seal Talk Event for Three Days

Joetsu Aquarium Umigatari will hold a special three-day event from January 10 (Sat) to January 12 (Mon/Holiday), 2026, featuring an educational presentation titled "Seal Story" to coincide with the Japanese tradition of Kagami-biraki (mirror-opening).

In celebration of Kagami-biraki, a traditional Japanese ceremony held to pray for a year of good health and prosperity, the aquarium will present a special talk about the health management of spotted seals.

During the event, visitors can learn about husbandry training essential for health monitoring and observe the seals' adorable behaviors that stem from this training—a perfect way to kick off the new year!

Through 2026, the aquarium continues to provide "new discoveries and stories" through many fascinating aspects of marine life that evoke reactions like "Wow!", "I see!", "How cute!", and "Amazing!"
