Kyoto Okazaki Tsutaya Books is hosting the solo exhibition "FRIEND" by illustrator Akinori Nishio, running from June 4 (Thu) to June 30 (Tue), 2026, at the GALLERY EN Wall inside the store. The show centers on his latest group portrait works depicting the everyday moments shared among young people living in the present day.

Within the world of illustration—a medium fundamentally built on communication—Nishio has been capturing fleeting slices of everyday life through simple, clean lines. His natural-feeling portrayals of contemporary youth have appeared on food packaging and in a wide range of other contexts, earning broad resonance with audiences.
His works, rendered in fluid, effortless brushstrokes, quietly convey the relationships between figures and the mood of each scene, evoking diverse personal narratives that touch viewers' own memories and emotions.
Artist's Statement
I want things, I want to know things, I want to touch things.
When I channel all those desires into illustrations,
it feels as though I've already obtained them.
I can't stop.
— Akinori Nishio
