Hananeya is a private room izakaya in the Saiin area of Kyoto, with signature dishes including crispy-skinned, pan-cooked wing-tip gyoza (羽根つき餃子) served in an iron pan, along with Kyushu-style specialties such as horse sashimi and charcoal-grilled chicken. It's designed as a relaxed setting where guests can enjoy good food and drinks at a comfortable pace.

Limited to 20 Servings Per Day — Swimming Squid Sashimi
One of Hananeya's standout offerings is the "swimming squid" (泳ぎイカ), a highly sought-after item limited to just 20 servings per day. In March, squid is in plentiful season, making this the ideal time to try it. As a sell-out item, ordering ahead is recommended.

Transparent and Incredibly Fresh
Squid typically turns white within about five minutes of being stressed or killed. To preserve the squid's condition, Hananeya uses specially designed transport containers that minimize stress during land delivery, then keeps the squid alive in a dedicated in-house tank. Orders are prepared from live squid, ensuring maximum freshness. The result is a beautifully clear, translucent sashimi with a firm, crisp texture — and suction cups that cling to the palate.
Kyushu Cuisine Alongside the Squid

Beyond the squid, the menu features a range of Kyushu-inspired dishes, including horse sashimi and charcoal-grilled local chicken.
