A new immersive digital art exhibition featuring classic ukiyo-e prints will open in Osaka's Umeda district. The "Moving Ukiyo-e Exhibition OSAKA" will be held at Grand Front Osaka North Building, Knowledge Capital Event Lab from January 17, 2026 (Saturday) to March 14, 2026 (Saturday).

About the Exhibition

The Moving Ukiyo-e Exhibition is an immersive digital art museum that transforms over 300 masterpieces by world-renowned ukiyo-e artists such as Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Utagawa Hiroshige, Kitagawa Utamaro, Tōshūsai Sharaku, and Utagawa Kunisada into stunning digital art. Using 3D CG animation and projection mapping, the exhibition creates graphical digital artworks that can be enjoyed by visitors of all ages, allowing them to immerse themselves in the world of ukiyo-e through multiple three-dimensional video spaces.

The exhibition has previously been held in Nagoya, Milan (Italy), Kagoshima, Tokyo, and Fukuoka, attracting over 350,000 visitors. It has also received the Excellence Award in the Project Division at the "CJPF Award 2025" hosted by the Cool Japan Public-Private Partnership Platform (Secretariat: Cabinet Office Intellectual Property Strategy Promotion Office).

Visitors are welcome to take photos and videos throughout the entire venue, allowing them to capture themselves immersed in the fantastical world of ukiyo-e.

The exhibition features over 300 works by world-renowned ukiyo-e artists including Katsushika Hokusai, Utagawa Kuniyoshi, Utagawa Hiroshige, Kitagawa Utamaro, Tōshūsai Sharaku, and Utagawa Kunisada, transformed into graphical digital artworks using 3D CG animation and projection mapping. Visitors can enjoy these works that appeal to all ages, from adults to children, and immerse themselves in the world of ukiyo-e through multiple three-dimensional video spaces in this immersive digital art museum. In addition to the digital displays, the exhibition showcases famous ukiyo-e prints from the Edo period and reproduction prints, providing explanations about ukiyo-e history, Edo culture, and the artists themselves.

The Moving Ukiyo-e Exhibition OSAKA will introduce Osaka's ukiyo-e through spaces unique to Osaka, offering exhibition content that not only deeply explores the artistic value of ukiyo-e but also provides easy-to-understand explanations of Edo culture, including the lifestyle and entertainment of that era.
