Ogikubo Three Gardens' Tekigaiso Exhibition Hall (on the east side of Tekigaiso, at 2-42-12 Ogikubo, Suginami Ward, Tokyo) is holding a special exhibition, "Fumimaro Konoe's Court Dress," from October 24 (Saturday), 2026, to February 14 (Sunday), 2027.
A "Court Dress" That Existed in Japanese History for Just 82 Years

Court dress (daireifuku) refers to the formal Western-style state dress established in Japan from 1872 (Meiji 5) to 1954 (Showa 29).
At Tekigaiso, the former residence where Fumimaro Konoe once lived is open to the public, and a faithfully reproduced version of Konoe's court dress is on display in the storehouse on the grounds. Since Tekigaiso opened in December 2024, the dress's tailoring — fitted to Konoe's tall frame — and its lavish gold cord embroidery have caught the eye of many visitors.
This time, the adjoining exhibition hall will also present valuable materials entrusted by the artisans who took on the challenge of reconstructing the dress across a historical gap. Alongside the dress's historical significance, the exhibition introduces the restoration techniques these artisans have carried into the present. Talks by those involved in the restoration will also be held to coincide with the exhibition.

Professor at Nihon University College of Commerce. A specialist in modern Japanese history well versed in the history of everyday culture, he has served as a costume and historical consultant for NHK's Taiga historical dramas and morning drama serials (asadora), and appears frequently in the media.
The History of Gold Embroidery — From Europe to Japan's Gold Cord Embroidery

Instructor at Bunka Fashion College. She works to pass down the techniques of gold cord embroidery through research and workshops.
Akira Tsuji
One of the few gold cord embroidery artisans remaining in Japan, he continues to create pieces while preserving the traditional techniques used for court dress and insignia.

Hoji-cha Shiruko
This fragrant, warm shiruko combines hoji-cha from Tokyo Shigetaen Tea Shop (Asagaya) with Toraya An Stand's an paste, topped with salted senbei from Mihara-do (Nishi-Ogikubo). Made with chewy, house-made shiratama dumplings, this gently sweet, warm dessert satisfies a small hunger and warms a chilled body.
