Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse is holding Red Brick Sunset 2026, an event that lets visitors soak up an exotic atmosphere, for 30 days from August 1 (Saturday) through August 30 (Sunday), 2026, at the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Event Plaza. Following its first weekend since opening, visitors have responded well even as the weak yen and rising prices continue to make overseas travel less accessible this year, with many saying the event lets them feel like they've traveled to the American West Coast.
Making the most of Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse's open, sea-facing location, the event is built around the concept of experiencing an exotic atmosphere without leaving Yokohama. Now an established summer tradition in the city, it draws visitors from both inside and outside Kanagawa Prefecture each year; last year's edition welcomed approximately 610,000 visitors, based on foot traffic at Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse Buildings 1 and 2.
Now in its 19th year, this year's theme is Santa Monica, a leading resort destination on the American West Coast. 2026 is a particularly meaningful year for Santa Monica, marking both the 100th anniversary of Route 66 — a symbol of America's development and the rise of the automobile — and the 250th anniversary of American independence. The venue recreates Santa Monica's blend of a calm beach resort and a colorful, retro-pop streetscape, using the distinctive setting of Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse to offer a taste of the American West Coast and an open, breezy summer escape.
Recreating Santa Monica: A Sunset Beach Resort With a Colorful, Retro-Pop Streetscape
The venue takes its theme from Santa Monica — known as the western terminus of Route 66, which connects the east and west coasts of the United States — and recreates the resort mood distinctive to the American West Coast.
Stepping into the venue, guests are greeted at the entrance by a bridge styled after Santa Monica's iconic pier, stretching toward the back of the site. Inside, a colorful, retro streetscape and a white sand beach evoking a calm sunset beach spread out across the venue, letting visitors soak up the open, breezy world of the West Coast.
A photo spot recreating a 1950s American diner has also been added to the venue. Many visitors have been seen enjoying photos amid the colorful, retro-pop setting, sharing comments such as, "The retro, cute design of the venue makes you feel happy just being there," and "It felt great eating something cold, like a smoothie, a shaved ice, or ice cream, on the sand."

A New Addition: American-Style Carnival Games
This year, "Carnival Games" — an American-style take on traditional festival games — make their debut at the event. Visitors can enjoy three types of games: "PALM TREE SHOOT," a shooting game aiming for a palm tree-shaped goal; "CALIFORNIA KNOCKDOWN," where accuracy and power are used to knock down targets; and "SUNSET LIGHT SCOOP," a scooping game featuring dreamy sunset-colored candles. Players of all ages, from children to adults, have thrown themselves into heated matches, forgetting the summer heat, with cheers rising and falling along with each game's outcome. Limited-edition items available only at the games have also proven popular, drawing crowds of visitors eager to make summer memories.

A Cool Oasis: The Misty Refresh Zone
A misty "cool zone" has also appeared within the venue, where many visitors stop to enjoy a refreshing break. The mist creates a pleasantly cool atmosphere, making it an especially popular spot during the hottest parts of the day.
Nearby, relax chairs and tables with a resort feel have been set up, offering a space where visitors can unwind while enjoying food and drinks. Guests taking a break in the cooling mist have commented, "The mist feels cold and refreshing, so it eases the heat." The area has become a beloved spot to catch a breather within the venue.

At the ice cream stand, guests can pick their favorite flavors served in a cup styled after the old Route 66 highway. The retro, 1980s American-inspired visuals have proven popular, with visitors commenting, "It has real American-style volume, so it's satisfying to eat," and "The ice cream — cup included — looks so cute that it makes you want to take a photo." Alongside Red Brick Sunset 2026, Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse is holding Disco Brick YOKOHAMA for the first time — a music event inspired by the worldwide disco boom of the 1970s and 1980s.
The event evokes the atmosphere of disco from the late 1970s and early 1980s, featuring full-scale performances by top DJs, all enjoyed outdoors with the Yokohama sea breeze. It aims to create a space where anyone can come together regardless of age or nationality — from those who remember disco culture firsthand to younger generations drawn to retro culture and visitors from overseas. Whether stopping by after a day of sightseeing in Yokohama or heading out at night to escape the summer heat, it offers a new nighttime playground to make the most of summer in Yokohama.
