Wanibooks Co., Ltd. (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President: Akio Takahashi) will release Seigo Suzuki's art book "Uttsuku - Japanese Beauty Collection" on November 11, 2025 (Tuesday).
This marks the first art book from up-and-coming illustrator Seigo Suzuki, who captivates the world with his new genre that expresses feminine charm in a pop and sensual way, based on his "ukiyo-e × contemporary" style that he has evolved into his own unique aesthetic. The collection features 120 works including newly created illustrations, and also includes commentary on the creation process of the beautiful cover illustration!
Who is Ukiyo-e Style Illustrator Seigo Suzuki?
"As a child, I liked the Japanese-Western eclectic feel of movies like 'Spirited Away.' When I became an adult, I started to love Akira Kurosawa's films, and after watching many of them, the appeal of Japanese aesthetics began to permeate within me.
I really love Akira Kurosawa's worldview. That's pure Japanese aesthetics. I enjoy adding my own arrangements to that pure Japanese aesthetic worldview, like introducing blonde women or adding modern elements to create a sense of incongruity.
Actually, I'm not very good at history and don't know much about it, so I think what I like is 'creating a worldview that seems like old Japan that would appeal to overseas audiences, with modern elements added to create incongruity.'"
