Nakabayashi Co., Ltd. is launching a new fountain pen ink line — "Ukiyo-e Ink: Katsushika Hokusai" — under its luxury writing instrument brand TACCIA, available nationwide in late March 2026.
The "Ukiyo-e Ink" Series: Colors Drawn from Woodblock Prints
The Ukiyo-e Ink series consists of water-based dye inks for fountain pens, with colors inspired and tuned after traditional ukiyo-e woodblock print artworks. The series is produced by stationery sommelier Dai Ishizu and color-supervised by color consultant Hanae Matsumoto.
All inks are developed and manufactured in Japan using high-safety raw materials.
The 4th Release Features Katsushika Hokusai
The fourth installment in the Ukiyo-e Ink lineup presents 8 colors inspired by Katsushika Hokusai's celebrated series "Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji" (冨嶽三十六景). Hokusai was active during the late Edo period and is recognized worldwide as one of Japan's most iconic artists, having influenced artists far beyond Japan's borders. His enduring cross-cultural appeal made him a fitting theme for this series once again.
The "Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji" is characterized by bold compositions and vivid colors, featuring a wide range of blues and greens and skillful use of indigo and crimson to evoke the temperature of the air and the shifting quality of light. Artworks with strong affinity for popular ink colors were selected for this edition.
