Takarazuka Hotel Celebrates 100th Anniversary with Special Events from May to July

Takarazuka Hotel, operated by Hankyu Hanshin Hotels (headquarters: Fukushima-ku, Osaka; President: Hidetoshi Koizumi), celebrates its 100th anniversary on May 14, 2026.

Opening in 1926 in Takarazuka, a popular destination known as the "City of Theater and Hot Springs," Takarazuka Hotel was designed by architect Masaharu Furudzuka in a Renaissance-style exterior with characteristic arched windows. The modern design incorporated German art styles of the era, earning the moniker "Hanshin Modernism" and becoming one of the iconic symbols of the city. After the post-war reconstruction period, the hotel expanded with the First New Building in 1962 (later renamed East Building after the Third New Building was completed), the Second New Building in 1969 (later renamed West Building), and the Third New Building in 1989, completing the form of the old Takarazuka Hotel. It became a deeply rooted presence in the community, serving as a venue for weddings, banquets, and dining events.

Additionally, Takarazuka Hotel has hosted dinner shows by the Takarazuka Revue and displayed stage costumes and photographs. Since 2007, the hotel has operated in-house restaurants at the Takarazuka Grand Theater, and in 2009, it became the "Official Hotel of Takarazuka Grand Theater," making it a beloved destination for Takarazuka Revue fans. In June 2020, the hotel relocated to the west side of the Takarazuka Grand Theater and opened with a fresh new appearance.

The new hotel, themed "A Continuation of the Dream" inspired by the glamorous world of the Takarazuka Revue, inherits architectural elements and chandeliers from the old hotel while incorporating designs and colors that embody the "splendor" of the Takarazuka Revue and the "tranquility" of the city. Supervised by Touka Yurino, former Takarazuka Revue Moon Troupe leader and current general manager of the new hotel, the property features Takarazuka Revue props and costumes displayed in galleries and guest rooms. The hotel also offers dynamic buffets, Japanese cuisine featuring seasonal ingredients, teppanyaki dining that delights all five senses, and a lounge serving diverse dishes and desserts perfect for family and group gatherings.

The 100 years of history walking alongside the city of Takarazuka has been supported by the warm encouragement of customers and local residents. Expressing sincere gratitude to patrons who have shown long-standing support, and with the hope of continuing to be a beloved hotel for the next 100 years, the hotel will implement various 100th anniversary commemorative projects over three months from May 1 to July 31.

Inheritance from Old Hotel to New Hotel

The old hotel opened in front of Hankyu (then Hanshin Express Electric Railway) "Takarazuka Minami-guchi" Station in 1926, was designated as an "Important Landscape Building of Hyogo Prefecture" in 2005, recognized as the "Official Hotel of Takarazuka Grand Theater" in 2009, and relocated in June 2020 to open the current hotel west of the Takarazuka Grand Theater. The elegant appearance filled with the sensibility of European modernism from the opening of the old hotel has captivated and been loved by many people, and its style and traditions are inherited throughout the current hotel.

Exterior Design

The exterior of the new hotel inherits the design of the old hotel, called "Hanshin Modernism." The beautiful gabled roof with plant motif reliefs and the floating relief sculptures on the gable employed art styles popular in Germany at the time. Arched windows and entrance, semicircular roof and dormer windows, and inverted trapezoidal windows - decorations from that era are inherited throughout various locations.

Grand Staircase

The red-carpeted staircase of the old hotel was designed with slightly taller steps to make it easier to climb in high heels, based on the idea that visitors should come to the hotel, which pioneered Western culture, in Western attire. The plant motif decoration on the stone newel post at the base of the staircase has also been restored. The symbol of the glamorous era of ladies and gentlemen of that time is inherited in the lobby staircase of the new hotel.

Lobby Chandeliers

The two large chandeliers shining in the lobby of the new hotel were relocated from the banquet hall "Silver" of the old hotel. The Takarazuka Hotel at the time of opening was a stylish social venue where modern ladies and gentlemen gathered, and many of the chandeliers that continued to elegantly illuminate that era have been inherited by the new hotel.

Stage Curtain

The stage curtain displayed in the lobby of the new hotel depicts a scene celebrating the departure of a knight. The original painting was created by Ryohei Koiso, a Western-style painter active in the Hanshin area during the Showa period. After being used at the Takarazuka Grand Theater, the curtain was displayed inside the old hotel. This curtain, which tells the history of the Takarazuka Revue, is also a symbol of the bond between the hotel and the Takarazuka Revue.

Guest Rooms

The old hotel had 59 guest rooms at the time of opening. Its resort hotel-like appearance and European-style room interiors became the talk of people at the time. The new hotel has 200 guest rooms. The "Revue Rooms" featuring stage props used in Takarazuka Revue performances have been well received, and in 2025, four themed "Revue Rooms" displaying photo panels and costumes were newly added.
