Wakuden no Mori in Kyotango Hosts Autumn Evening of Lanterns and Wine on November 7, 2026

On Saturday, November 7, 2026, Wakuden no Mori (和久傳ノ森) in Kyotango, Kyoto, holds an event called "Enjoying Wakuden no Mori by Light" (灯りで楽しむ和久傳ノ森), where visitors can enjoy the forest as it shifts from dusk into night.

On the day, MORI Wakuden offers event-limited food and drinks, and Milk Kobo Sora (ミルク工房そら) of Kyotango provides cheese and wine. A workshop for making Chibimaru lanterns (ちび丸提灯), led by the lantern workshop Kojima-an (小嶋庵), is also held.

Visitors can light a lantern they made themselves, enjoy food and wine, and spend an autumn evening in their own way, whether adults or children.

An Evening of Food and Light as the Forest Moves from Dusk to Night

The event takes place on the terrace space next to MORI Wakuden in Wakuden no Mori.

MORI Wakuden sells limited-edition food and drinks prepared for the day, along with cheese and wine from Milk Kobo Sora.

As the sun sets and the forest gradually changes its look, visitors can relax over a meal in the soft glow of the lanterns.

Wakuden no Mori is often visited during the day, and this event offers a chance to experience the forest at autumn dusk and after dark.

A Forest Cultivated Over Time, Where Visitors Can Experience Nature, Food and Local Culture

Wakuden no Mori

Out of gratitude to Kyotango, where the company was founded, Wakuden began creating the forest in 2007. The 30,000 seedlings of 56 species planted together with local residents have grown over 19 years into a forest alive with the nature of each season.

Today the site has a restaurant and an art museum, making it a place to experience nature, food and art. It also hosts "Tsuchi no Gakko" (土の学校), where visitors try activities such as making butter and extracting honey together with local makers. On the third Sunday of every month, a "Free Museum Day for Elementary School Students" (小学生美術館無料の日) is held as well.

In addition to these events about nature and food, Wakuden has planned this autumn evening event, where both adults and children can enjoy the glow of lanterns and good food.

Making Chibimaru Lanterns with Kyotango Lantern Workshop Kojima-an

To let visitors enjoy the night forest through light, a workshop is held by Kojima-an (小嶋庵), a lantern workshop in Amino-cho, Kyotango.

Kojima-an values the traditional way of making lanterns, which involves splitting bamboo, assembling the frame and applying washi paper, while creating products that fit into everyday life today.

In the workshop, participants choose a washi paper in their favorite color and pattern from a variety of options and apply it to a Chibimaru lantern to make an original lantern of their own.

When a light is placed inside the finished lantern, a soft glow spreads through the washi paper. Participants can also enjoy the evening event with the lantern they made.

Chibimaru lanterns are also on sale on the day.
