Why are you here.....?, the select shop based in Minami-Semba, Osaka, known for a lineup that crosses luxury, designer, and street fashion, is opening a new concept store, "Why are you here.....? Kyoto," on Fuyacho-dori in Kyoto on Saturday, August 8, 2026.
The new store sits on Fuyacho-dori, a quietly distinctive Kyoto street dotted with galleries, lifestyle shops, and long-established businesses. Blending into that streetscape, "Why are you here.....? Kyoto" arrives as a base for encountering fashion, new perspectives, and culture all at once.
Since its founding in 2000, Why are you here.....? has selected brands — from luxury houses to independent designers — based on resonance with their philosophy and craftsmanship, without regard to genre, era, or name recognition.
At the Kyoto store, that philosophy is taken further with a lineup spanning mode, designer, luxury, street, and classic fashion, offering fresh discoveries even for longtime followers of fashion. The store carries a curated selection of brands from Japan and abroad, including THE ROW, VUJA DÉ, Enfants Riches Déprimés, and OMAR AFRIDI, with the lineup built around each brand's philosophy and aesthetic rather than trends or genre.
Opening Day
On opening day, the store will hold an opening reception where visitors can experience the world of "Why are you here.....? Kyoto." VUJA DÉ designer Ken Iijima will visit the store for the launch of the 2026 Autumn/Winter Drop 1, alongside preorder sales of a limited-quantity bag and belt exclusive to the Kyoto store. The bag is a special version of the popular "IRA BAG IN LEATHER," updated in a Kyoto store-exclusive design.
The store will also offer tastings and sales of matcha from KOMĀ, a matcha brand using 100% organic tea leaves grown at a renowned garden in Uji, Kyoto with roughly 270 years of history. Alongside the matcha, the store will display and sell matcha bowls and tea utensils by ceramic artists 中根楽, 呉瑛姫, 額賀円也, and 竹下努, together with a floral installation using fresh flowers — creating a space where visitors can experience Japanese aesthetics through tea, craft, and design.
To mark the opening, customers who make a purchase will receive a limited-quantity original T-shirt or tote bag as a gift while supplies last.
