Chion-in Temple Spring and Autumn Night Special Visit - Illuminations During Cherry Blossom and Autumn Foliage Seasons

Light-Up Cherry Blossom (sakura / hanami)
Kyoto / March

About This Event

Chion-in Temple, located in Kyoto's Higashiyama district, is a venerable temple known as the head temple of the Jodo sect. It is within walking distance from Gion-Shijo Station. During the spring cherry blossom season and autumn foliage season, the Special Night Visit illuminates the majestic temple buildings, including the Sanmon Gate and Miedo Hall, both designated as National Treasures, with fantastical lighting. The Sanmon Gate, one of Japan's largest surviving wooden two-story gates, becomes even more magnificent when illuminated, welcoming visitors as they ascend the stone steps. At Yuzen-en Garden, the spectacle of weeping cherry blossoms and autumn leaves reflected in the pond's water mirror is a highlight, where visitors can enjoy the harmonious scenery of seasonal natural beauty and traditional architecture. During the Special Night Visit period, special programs such as dharma talks by monks and guided tours are also offered, providing a precious opportunity to learn about Chion-in Temple's history and the teachings of the Jodo sect.
