Oigawa Railway Spring Cherry Blossom Train - Scenic Cherry Blossoms from a Steam Locomotive

The Oigawa Railway is a precious railway line where authentic steam locomotives, preserved in operational condition since 1976, continue to run in active service. During the spring cherry blossom season, special "Cherry Blossom Viewing Trains" operate to enjoy the cherry tree-lined routes.

The "Cherry Blossom Tunnel" around Ieyama Station is a spectacular viewing spot with abundant blooming cherry trees, grown over many years from sakura planted during the line's opening in 1931. As the Cherry Blossom Train passes through this tunnel, it deliberately slows down its speed, allowing passengers to leisurely admire the full bloom of cherry blossoms from the train windows.

When combined with a visit to the locally held "Kawane Sakura Matsuri" festival, visitors can enjoy evening cherry blossom illuminations and local food stalls, experiencing both the nostalgic atmosphere of the Showa era and the beauty of Japan's spring landscape throughout the day.
