About This Event

Shonan no Hoseki is a winter-only illumination event held at Enoshima Island in Fujisawa City, Kanagawa Prefecture. With over 20 years of history, this light festival has continued to captivate many visitors annually as one of the premier illumination events representing the Kanto region. It was designated as one of the "Kanto Sandai Illumination" (Three Great Illuminations of Kanto) in 2012, recognized as a "Japan Night View Heritage" site in 2013, and won first place in the Outstanding Story Award in the Illumination Event category at the "International Illumination Award" in 2024, earning high praise both domestically and internationally for its beauty and artistry. This event, held for approximately three months from late November to late February each year, envelops the entire island in jewel-like light centered around the Enoshima Sea Candle (observation lighthouse). In the main "Light Space," dynamic light spanning approximately 70 meters in diameter radiates from the 60-meter-tall Sea Candle, offering a fantastical collaboration with the silhouette of Mount Fuji. The event's highlights are diverse. The "Shonan Chandelier," created with LEDs and crystal beads, is a dazzling tunnel of light. At the "Shonan no Hoseki Entrance," gate illuminations inspired by starry skies and ocean waves project rippling water imagery at visitors' feet, leading them into a fantastical world. Additionally, "Hoseki FOREST" uses jewelry lights and terrariums to illuminate forest pathways in jewel colors, featuring environmentally conscious beautiful displays using low-power LEDs. The "enoshima-hikari-michi" (Enoshima Light Path) connecting various locations on the island with Katase Beach forms a "path of light" approximately 1 kilometer long, allowing visitors to enjoy various scenes while strolling around. The night view of Enoshima shining like jewels in the clear winter air with sea breezes provides unforgettable moments to all who visit. While admission fees are required for the Samuel Cocking Garden and Sea Candle, exploring the island itself can be enjoyed free of charge.
