Altra Launches the Olympus 275 HiLo, a Trail Running Shoe with a Redesigned Midsole and Vibram Megagrip Outsole

Altra, the footwear brand built around the pursuit of a more natural running form, is bringing a new trail running model to its lineup on July 24, 2026: the Olympus 275 HiLo. Built for outstanding durability and comfort, it's designed to handle all kinds of technical terrain.

Olympus 275: A Special Model Built to Master Tough Trails

Olympus 275 HiLo

Last year's Olympus 275 was a special model derived from the max-cushion "Olympus" series in Altra's trail category. It carried over the Olympus sole unit's generous cushioning and stability while adding more advanced materials and functional details, resulting in a shoe built to push faster and stronger through technical trails like rocky ridgelines and muddy paths.

The upper uses a highly durable material called MATRYX®, woven from nylon and aramid fibers, which gives it high tear resistance against rough scraping on rocky terrain while keeping the shoe lightweight. The collar also has a scree sleeve that works like a built-in gaiter, keeping out small stones and sand for comfortable footing on trail runs as well as hiking and mountain climbing.

Building on that already well-rounded model, the new Olympus 275 HiLo pushes trail performance further with updated materials and features.

Three Features Behind the Olympus 275 HiLo's Performance

Powering strong climbs and carrying that momentum into fast descents — here are the three features behind how the Olympus 275 HiLo runs.

A Redesigned Midsole: 15% Lighter, 10% Softer

The midsole has been updated to Altra EGO™ MAX

The midsole, the heart of the shoe, has been redesigned for this model. In place of the EVA foam used in the Olympus series, it now uses Altra EGO™ MAX, valued for its responsiveness and bounce. Compared to the previous model, it's 15% lighter and 10% softer, giving every step a plush, cushioned feel along with a lighter stride than before.

A Vibram® Megagrip Outsole with New TractionLug™

The outsole continues to use Vibram® Megagrip, known for its excellent grip performance. This model adds TractionLug™, a new lug design that bites into the ground more firmly. It delivers dependable traction on both wet and dry surfaces, keeping footing stable even through technical sections.

Zero Drop Design and FootShape™ for a Natural Stride

Zero drop sole structure
Zero drop: a flat sole structure with no height difference between the toe and heel

The shoe carries over Altra's signature zero-drop design along with the Original, the widest of Altra's FootShape™ lasts. A toe box with extra room through the midfoot lets the toes move naturally, keeping the fit comfortable over long days out.

About Zero Drop

A flat sole structure with no difference in thickness between the toe and heel. By keeping the foot in a posture close to barefoot, it supports smooth weight transfer across the whole foot and balanced running and walking.

About FootShape

Altra's own last design. Giving the toes extra room lets them spread naturally, allowing the foot's own arch structure to function as intended. This helps with shock absorption on landing, stable ground contact, and a smooth push-off.
