Aomori & Southern Hokkaido Delicacies at Tokyo Station - MEGURIP Direct Market Event

From December 1, 2025, to March 31, 2026, JR East Cross Station is hosting the Aomori & Southern Hokkaido MEGURIP regional fair at Tokyo Station. As part of this campaign, a special "Aomori & Southern Hokkaido Direct Market" will be held from January 14 to 18 at Tokyo Station's event space "Square Zero."

The direct market will feature local specialty products transported via JR East Group's train cargo service "HakoBYUN," traditional performing arts showcases, and appearances by regional mascot characters. The event will also promote tourism along the Hachinohe Line, which was affected by the earthquake that struck off the coast of Aomori Prefecture on December 8, 2025.

This delicacy is made from young walleye pollock, filleted and dried. For Aomori locals, it's an essential part of New Year celebrations and winter. Peel the skin off and tear the flesh into bite-sized pieces to enjoy as is. The classic way to eat it is with mayonnaise and shichimi (seven-spice chili powder), adding richness and spice to the mild fish.

Hasshoku Center

The "Hasshoku Center" in Hachinohe City, Aomori, is a massive market stretching approximately 170 meters with about 70 shops. It offers freshly landed seafood from Hachinohe Port, meat, vegetables, local sake, and unique folk crafts - everything representing Hachinohe's seasonal offerings. More than just a shopping destination, it's a culinary mecca and highlight of Hachinohe tourism, attracting approximately 3 million visitors annually.

Made from hoya (sea pineapple) cultivated in Shikabe Town, Hokkaido. Unlike traditional salted preparations, this "Western-style" version was developed after over two years of trial and error. The oil gently wraps the unique hoya flavor, making it easy for anyone to enjoy. This shelf-stable product comes in two varieties: Plain and Smoked.

King Shiitake

These exceptionally large shiitake mushrooms are grown using natural water from Mount Yokotsu and abundant mizunara oak chips. Selected for the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry's "The Wonder 500™" - 500 excellent Japanese regional products not yet known worldwide. They also won the "Golden Sun Mash Award" (the highest honor for log-cultivated fresh shiitake) at the National Sun Mash Production Council competition. Their umami is outstanding, impressive enough to serve as a main dish like steak.

Kajitsuen Lieber is selling menu items featuring Aomori Prefecture's "Sun Fuji" apples and "General Leclerc" pears, luxuriously transported via "HakoBYUN" as part of the "Regional Collaboration Modal Shift Promotion Project" in cooperation with Aomori Prefecture.

To address social challenges such as "the 2024 logistics problem" and "regional revitalization," demonstration testing of Shinkansen cargo transport to the Tokyo metropolitan area is being implemented under the "Regional Collaboration Modal Shift Promotion Project" approved by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.
