June 16 is "Wagashi Day"! "EXPO Wagashi Meguri" at LaLaport EXPOCITY

Just ahead of "Wagashi Day" on June 16, LaLaport EXPOCITY in Suita City, Osaka will host "EXPO Wagashi Meguri," a three-day wagashi fair from Friday, June 12 to Sunday, June 14, 2026. The event takes place at the 1st Floor Hikari Plaza, bringing together over 250 varieties of traditional Japanese sweets from Hokkaido to Okinawa.

EXPO Wagashi Meguri Overview

The fair gathers regional specialties and Japanese-style sweets from all 47 prefectures across Japan. Visitors can browse an array of unique confections that reflect each region's character — from everyday favorites to award-winning pieces, including a confection that received the Foreign Minister's Prize at the National Confectionery Expo. In addition to purchasing wagashi, visitors can also enjoy tea and coffee from Fukujuen and TSUJIMOTO coffee that pair well with wagashi, and participate in wagashi-making workshops hosted by a long-established shop.

Featured Wagashi by Region

[Hokkaido / Tohoku] Sendai Hitokuchi Zunda Mochi (Miyagi Prefecture) / Igeta Seicha Co., Ltd.

A bite-sized zunda mochi made with "Miyakoganemochi" glutinous rice from Miyagi Prefecture, wrapped in zunda (edamame) paste. This sweet brings a traditional Sendai flavor, said to have been enjoyed by Date Masamune, into a modern confection format. Limited to 40 pieces per day.

[Kanto] Gorogoro Mame Daifuku (Ibaraki Prefecture) / Kameijiri Seika Co., Ltd.

A rich daifuku filled with chunky bean paste made from Hokkaido red beans slow-cooked to perfection, generously packed with lightly salted beans throughout for a satisfying, layered flavor.

[Hokuriku / Koshinetsu] Kanazawa Buncho Kaga Black Tea Flavor (Ishikawa Prefecture) / Seika Muromachi Co., Ltd.

A "neo wagashi" that won the Foreign Minister's Prize at the 2025 National Confectionery Expo. This innovative yokan has a distinctly fruit-like flavor and comes individually wrapped in charming packaging shaped like a Java sparrow. The dry fruit-filled, light taste pairs well with dry sake or wine.

[Tokai / Kinki] Ise Specialty O-Fuku Mochi (Mie Prefecture) / Ofuku Mochi Honke Co., Ltd.

Each O-Fuku Mochi is handcrafted individually. The distinctive shape of the smooth bean paste encasing the mochi is modeled after the waves of Futami-ura Bay. Made with Hokkaido "Hakuchoumochi" glutinous rice for a soft yet springy texture, combined with smooth, flavorful koshi-an made from Hokkaido "Kitaroman" beans.

[Chugoku / Shikoku] Utsugi Park Dango (Tottori Prefecture) / Ishitani Seikado Co., Ltd.

A three-color skewered dango made from locally sourced glutinous rice flour slowly steamed with syrup, then wrapped in three types of paste: white bean paste, red bean paste, and matcha paste. A simple and charming treat.

Utsugi Park Dango

[Kyushu / Okinawa] Nanban Ourai Itoshima Premium Milk & Raspberry (Fukuoka Prefecture) / Sakaiya Co., Ltd.

A beloved Fukuoka confection inspired by the journey of foreign traders who arrived in Nagasaki and traveled the Nagasaki Highway toward Kyoto and Edo. The pastry makes full use of fresh butter's rich flavor, baked to a fluffy finish, with a puff pastry folded into 512 layers for a satisfying, crispy bite.
