Foster + Partners Industrial Design's 'One to one' Exhibition Opens at AXIS Gallery in Roppongi on November 13

An exhibition titled "One to one," introducing projects that Foster + Partners Industrial Design has worked on since the early days of its activities, will be held at AXIS Gallery in Roppongi, Tokyo, from Friday, November 13 to Sunday, November 29, 2026. The exhibition is organized by AXIS Inc., a company that carries out design promotion activities.

Industrial design creates the "points of contact" through which people experience the world around them. Sitting in a chair, operating a light, opening a door or using a device are all moments where form, material, function and human behavior merge into one.

"One to one (1:1)" is an exhibition that explores the work of Foster + Partners Industrial Design. Crossing a variety of contexts and scales, from furniture and lighting to architectural systems and infrastructure, it reveals the thinking, production processes and collaboration behind them.

Industrial design has been an important part of Foster + Partners, a global organization working in sustainable architecture, urban planning, engineering and design, since its founding. It began in the 1980s, when Sir Norman Foster developed the table that later became "Nomos." Today, the industrial design division works autonomously while also collaborating closely with the Foster + Partners organization as a whole. This allows ideas and expertise to move back and forth between the products and the spaces in which they are experienced.

The exhibition invites visitors to look beyond the displayed objects themselves, to the relationships and processes that shaped them.

About Foster + Partners Industrial Design

Art, craft and a scientific approach to making have formed the foundation of Foster + Partners Industrial Design for decades. Founded by Sir Norman Foster, the studio creates products at every scale, from tables to turbines, starting from the concept and working in collaboration with manufacturers, craftspeople and startups.

Under an integrated design structure, collaboration is at the center of the studio's philosophy, and every product is shaped by extensive experience and global expertise. With sustainability as a guiding principle, the studio combines thorough research with the idea of "design by making." Every project proceeds through an iterative approach of prototyping and testing, and designs are refined through trial and error, digital modeling and hands-on exploration.
