The seasonal craft lemonade is returning to Freshness Burger starting March 4, 2026. Last year's version sold out before the end of its sales period, and this year the chain is bringing it back with the same rare ingredient: beni amanatsu citrus from Kagoshima Prefecture.
The lineup includes the Craft Beni Amanatsu Lemonade Soda (ICE) and the Craft Beni Amanatsu Lemonade (HOT), both priced at ¥560 (tax included). The drinks are part of the brand's craft lemonade series, which has sold a cumulative total of over 1.05 million cups as of January 2026.
What Is Beni Amanatsu?
Beni amanatsu is a rare domestic citrus variety that originated in Akune City, Kagoshima Prefecture, where it was discovered by chance. Unlike a regular amanatsu (sweet summer orange), its skin takes on a slightly reddish hue, giving it a distinctive appearance. Because cultivation is concentrated primarily in Kagoshima and limited surrounding areas, it rarely makes it into mainstream distribution channels.
The fruit's flavor combines juicy flesh, a refreshing acidity, a gentle sweetness, and a subtle bitterness that adds depth to the overall taste.
Careful In-Store Preparation
At Freshness Burger, each fruit is individually assessed in-store before being slowly marinated in honey. This deliberate process is designed to draw out the natural aroma of the beni amanatsu while producing a mellow sweetness.
The hot version highlights the fruit's gentle sweetness and fragrance, while the iced version lets the citrusy acidity and mild bitterness stand out, delivering a clean, refreshing finish.
