Hoshino Resort to Open New Hotel in Hakone's Gora Onsen in 2028

Hoshino Resort — operator of brands including Hoshinoya, KAI, Risonare, OMO, BEB, and LUCY — has announced plans to open a new facility in Gora Onsen, Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture in 2028. The property will be the company's first new-build hotel condominium in the Hakone Gora area, offering just 23 rooms designed for a private, secluded retreat.

The new hotel sits on an elevated hillside between Mount Kamiyama and Sounzan, with unobstructed views across Hakone's outer crater mountain range. Hoshino Resort currently operates two other properties in the region — KAI Hakone and KAI Sengokuhara — and sees this new facility as a natural extension of its presence in one of Japan's most celebrated hot spring destinations.

The Gora Area of Hakone

Gora began developing as an upscale hot spring resort for private villas during the Meiji era and became a retreat cherished by aesthetes and connoisseurs of the arts. As a result, the area grew into a culturally rich destination with a character distinct from typical villa districts. Gora sits above a subterranean caldera, giving the area a sense of geothermal energy that is central to the hot spring experience.

The location is also highly accessible — approximately 70 minutes by car from central Tokyo — making it easy to visit on a whim. Visitors can enjoy both the surrounding natural attractions and the simple luxury of settling in for an extended stay.
