A new chapter of street dance culture is coming to Kabukicho. Kabukicho Street Cypher 2nd Season (KSC) is set to launch at Kabukicho Cinecity Square in Shinjuku, building on the success of its inaugural season. This open-style dance battle series welcomes all dancers—pro and amateur alike—regardless of genre or background, and entry is completely free.
What Is Kabukicho Street Cypher?
Kabukicho Street Cypher is an "open street platform" for all dancers, offering a cypher-style format that anyone can join. A cypher is a circular improvised dance session rooted in street dance origins, where participants take turns stepping into the center of a circle to showcase spontaneous performances. It is a highly interactive and live experience where the boundary between performer and audience blurs, forming the core of dance culture worldwide.
The series features a unique ranking system: top performers each session earn points based on their placement, which accumulate throughout the season toward the Kabukicho Street Cypher GRAND CHAMPIONSHIP.
What's New in the 2nd Season?
The 2nd Season introduces three new systems to make the experience more fair, competitive, and engaging:
① Guest Battler Participation
On select occasions, the session winner will get the chance to battle a specially invited Guest Battler. Defeating the Guest Battler earns bonus points separate from the regular ranking points.
② "Repre" Group Competition Points
Participants register the group, crew, or studio they represent at the time of entry. Throughout the 2nd Season, the group with the most participating dancers will receive a Showcase Slot at the Grand Championship. Showcase slots will be offered across three divisions: Unit/Team/Crew (including high school dance clubs), University Dance Circles, and Studio/School.
③ Audience Points
During the Best 8 tournament rounds, audience votes will be added alongside judges' scores. In cases of tied annual points, the dancer with more accumulated audience points will be ranked higher.
