About Lazare Kaplan

The Passion of Mr. Diamond, Lazare Kaplan

Lazare Kaplan History

Born in 1883 as the third generation of a gemstone merchant family, Lazare Kaplan was recognized as an excellent diamond cutter at a young age in Antwerp, Belgium, and became independent at 20. After relocating to New York, USA, he dedicated his life to the pursuit of "The World's Most Beautiful Diamond®." In 1919, based on the theory of his cousin, mathematician Marcel Tolkowsky, he practically implemented through cutting the perfect proportions "Ideal Make" that makes diamonds shine in seven colors. This ideal and luxurious cutting remains the brand identity that Lazare Diamond strictly maintains even after a century. In 1935, he was entrusted by renowned jeweler Harry Winston to cut the 726ct Jonker Diamond giant rough stone, and accomplished this feat over the course of a year. Already called the "Magician of Cutting" at that time, Lazare Kaplan also devoted himself to properly evaluating the beauty and value of diamonds, as well as human resource development and technical development. He advocated for the importance of cutting that brings out diamond brilliance and greatly contributed to the establishment of the 4Cs at American certification institutions. The sublime aesthetic sense that continued to lead the industry and numerous achievements have made Lazare Kaplan legendary, and he is still praised as "Mr. Diamond."

Our Quality

The High Quality Unique to Lazare Diamond

Lazare Diamond Quality

The supreme brilliance of "The World's Most Beautiful Diamond®" that allows no rivals can only be obtained by pursuing excellence in every process. Lazare Diamond supervises everything from rough stone procurement to cutting and polishing in-house. This is a diamond cutter's brand rare even on a global scale. The brand carefully selects diamond rough stones centered on the beautiful regular octahedron "Octahedron." It cuts them into the luxurious proportion "Ideal Make" that prioritizes brilliance - the essential beauty of diamonds - over carat weight, and draws out overwhelming brilliance through commitment to all processes, including polishing performed manually by skilled craftsmen. The laser engraving of ID numbers, which has now become proof of high-quality diamonds, is also a world-first technology jointly developed by Lazare Diamond. Not compromising on anything, aiming for even greater heights - these are our pride inherited from founder Lazare Kaplan, and the truth of diamonds that shine in seven colors.
